Epson Stylus Photo R1800 Reviews

Shutterbug reviews the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and writes;
“The more I used the printer, the more images I wanted to try printing, and often with more than one of the paper selections I had available. The results encourage me to believe Epson has created an advanced enthusiast printer that is capable of reproducing more good digital image files successfully than has been the case in the past. In addition, this printer has the ability to create super glossy prints on Epson Premium Glossy Paper for those who like prints with a mirror-like surface. And finally, the printer also provides the same excellent quality when printing on white printable CD-R or DVD-R discs as the R800.”

Techradar reviews the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and writes;
“Overall, this is an excellent enthusiast’s printer at a reasonable price. It is similar to the 2200 and offers similar quality. But the slightly different slant of the 2200 means it’s perhaps best considered a fine art printer for use with matt papers, or for finely nuanced black and white work. In comparison, the R1800 is a no-brainer choice for colour photography.”

Trustedreviews reviews the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and writes;
“While the design and mechanics of this A3 Epson Stylus Photo R1800 are very similar to an A4 printer you will have to expect to pay more for the longer carriage. In its favour, this is a very versatile printer that can handle anything from postcards up to oversize A3. You can do full-bleed output, print on roll paper or on compatible CD blanks and thanks to its six colours, it produces excellent photographic prints on gloss, watercolour or plain papers.”

CNET reviews the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and writes;
“The Stylus Photo R1800 does a reasonably good job with black-and-white output but creates composite grays, typically resulting in a slight color cast in the print. For more neutral monochrome, you’ll have to opt for the R2400. Though not quite neutral, the R1800′s grays show less variability under changing light sources than do those of its competitors. It also displays a very good dynamic range and color accuracy, as well as the best flesh tones of any of the photo printers we’ve seen thus far. Text looks extremely sharp, though under a loupe we spotted some minor irregularities. Also, graphics had some slight printhead banding in the gradient fills, as well as some slight jaggies in the curves.”

Epson Stylus Photo R1800 User Reviews

Can’t be beat
“I won’t mention any names but I personally compared the output of this printer with that of two other brands in this price range before my purchase. Once I got mine home and hooked up, I knew that my research was valid. as a lifetime shutterbug(brownie thru instamatic, 35mm and now digital SLR), I find myself most concerned with the quality of my images.” – by Paul E. MY INTEL MAC LOVES IT; excellent quality prints
“The prints are superb. I bought this in order to do 13×19 prints “in house” and the only surprise is how much better prints turn out than I could possibly have expected. Simply, the price-performance ratio on this printer is outstanding. As much use as this thing gets, it is especially helpful that the color cartridges are not “all in one”. I find that it is far more economical to replace one color component. That has to be more environmentally sound, as well.” – by Patricia Tryon

CD printing and other thoughts
“The software and hardware worked flawlessly. The first CD was a little light, but that was easily adjusted. I’m very happy with this. Also printed 12 sheets of graphics to be made into “buttons” using Kodak paper and they were fine. The “gloss” cartridge is down a bit, so I went and bought two more. The others haven’t even begun to show usage yet. Anyway, I’m happy with the printer. Which, by the way, is replacing an HP 1220C, which is a nice printer, and works well, but doesn’t like heavier papers, and doesn’t do CDs.” – by P. L. Dunford

The Best Printer I’ve Ever Owned
“This printer is absolutely fabulous. The print quality is crisp, clear and the colors are stunningly vibrant. I have had it almost a year now, and it has worked flawlessly. I use it to print CDs, letters, artist’s prints and regular letters and such. The ink lasts a good long time and is very affordable. “ – by Mary Reynolds

Replaced Canon iP8500
“After experience with several hundred Epson prints, I am very pleased with the R1800. The color match with my calibrated monitor is right on. I use Epson paper. I am proud to share prints with friends, they are as good as or better than any prints from multiple commercial sources. I am more confident that the prints will still be good years from now.” – by W. Reid Grimes

Epson R 1800
“This is an excellent product. The pictures that I have produced rival museum quality. Combine this with Photoshop Elements and you have an unbeatable ability to produce quality prints. Add to all that the ability to make large prints.” – by Dale Counce

Excellent photo printer
“The R1800 is my first real photo printer. I could not be more pleased with the ease of set-up and the quality of prints. I am using Photoshop Elements 5.0 or Adobe Lightroom to manage all of the print settings and color profiles to produce some great prints. I have used the printer color profile settings to print some test samples and it does a very good job. I prefer to use the downloaded paper profiles from Epson for the best quality prints.” – by Allen W. Harry

with a mac
“I have not had the printer long enough to give it a 5 but wanted to leave this review for any Mac users. Some other Mac users give a low review and there is some problems using this printer with Leopard and Intel based G5s. I hooked it up to a G5 non-Intel power Mac using Leopard and have had no problems. The driver that came with the printer was fine.” – by G. Diaz

Excellent printer
“The Epson R1800 is an excellent pigment ink printer. Fantastic quality, fast, and quiet. I’m a graphic designer and photographer, and have used it exclusively for design proofs and photography, most usually printing the larger 13×19 sizes. I’ve been through two of them in the last three years. “ – by S. Stinson

Fantastic printer for both photos and plots
“I bought this printer as refurbished from Epson for $300+. The first thing I want to note is when it arrived I couldn’t find anything that didn’t look brand new. I print my own photographs. Though I’m not a professional, I do use the ICC settings. The results have been incredible. I’m an Oracle DBA and print a lot of data model plots, which necessarily have to be larger than 8.5″ x 11″. I print on 11″ x 17″ or more often on 13″ x 19″. What a difference it makes, and since I use adjusted ICC settings even for these, they are the most beautiful plots you’ll ever see” – by Michael Milligan

Great Printer
“I have had this printer since March 2005. Couldn’t be happier. Prints are fabulous. Been through several sets of cartridges and have had printing problems twice (I turn the printer off when I’m not using and if I don’t use for more than a month, some colors will clog — don’t run the print cleaning function, just take out each cartridge and shake and put back into the printer and voila, no problems)… Over four years of beautiful picture printing, with a little ingenuity when a problem arises is a testament to the quality of this printer. Epsons are the best. “ – by bill
