Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Reviews
PCAdvisor reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“while the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 really is designed as a photo printer, you can print very good quality text documents too, which makes it serviceable as a general-purpose printer.”
Computerarts reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Overall, we were slightly underwhelmed by the SP1400 as a photo printer. It can produce some very bright, punchy colours with a wide gamut, but it also seems temperamental.”
Whatdigitalcamera reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Unlike earlier models though, the 1400 uses Epson’s Claria ink, which is claimed to produce prints that can last for up to 200 years in an album. As well as longevity, the maximum print resolution has also been increased, with the 1400 capable of delivering an optimised resolution of 5760 x 1440dpi using variable-sized droplet technology.”
Expertreviews reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Standard A4 document printing is unlikely to be a priority if you’re buying an A3+ printer, which is a good thing in this case. A standard A4 page is a rather costly 7.8p per page. Normal-quality text prints were passable, despite jagged edges on the lettering, but printed at a slow 2.6ppm. Draft prints were faster at 9.1ppm, but were readable rather than presentable. “
ITReviews reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“A impressive upgrade from the 1290S with improved quality ink and ink delivery system that will ensure both the serious amateur and the experienced professional can produce high quality, detailed and accurate prints up to A3+.”
Pocket-lint reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Set up is fast and you get Epson’s Creativity Suite software to tinker with as well as the print utility and printer driver on CD. You can print on media from 6 x 4-inch (10 x 15cm) enprint size up to the maximum A3+ size and you can print everything from top quality photos to more usual plain paper text documents.”
Ephotozine reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“The glossy paper was frankly poor, but the Premium semi-gloss and the matt paper (within certain parameters) were fine with plenty of detail and good colours. The speed was hardly hare-like but at least it was very quite.. As a replacement for the legendary 1290 workhorse line, this is a good quality printer but WCS-compatible drivers for Vista users and better profiles would be appreciated.”
Theglobeandmail reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Thankfully, the alignment solved the problem well enough. Printing a 13×19 print afterward provided the results I was looking for. Not only were there no lines, the colours were vibrant with excellent shading as well. Colour transitions really stood out, like when a blue sky shows a range of tones.”
Macworld reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Photos on both glossy- and matte-finish papers showed bright, true-to-life colors, with excellent shadow detail, and resistance to both scratches and moisture. And, while the 1400 really is designed as a photo printer, you can print very good quality text documents too, which makes it serviceable as a general-purpose printer.”
PhotographyBlog reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“Print quality is very good for color images. I was less happy with black and white prints though as all prints showed a color cast that I was unable to remove through adjustments in the print driver or with custom profiles I made. The custom profiles improved output, but I was still unable to produce a truly neutral toned black and white print. “
ShutterBug reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“The bottom line is that in almost every performance dimension the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 improves on its predecessor, the 1280. It reproduces dramatic images that also have greater longevity, comparable to many pigment-ink prints, according to Wilhelm Imaging Research. The Epson 1400 prints finer detail and better sharpness, as well as more brilliant colors on all media.”
Thinkcamera reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“It sounds like a contradiction, but the Epson Stylus Photo 1400’s output is vividly natural. Colours are extremely accurate across the board, with none of the orangey casts or muted greens of many ink-jets.. Those fancy 1.5 picolitre jets seem to live up to expectations, with remarkably fine printing, even by Epson standards. Surprisingly, the monochrome prints even came close to those generated by printers that double dip in the black, like the R2400.”
Trustedreviews reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“If you’re buying primarily to print photographs larger than A4, the Stylus Photo 1400 is an excellent choice. It produces very high-quality photographic output and although it’s not particularly fast or cheap to run, it sits in the middle of the market. Plain paper print isn’t so good, but if that’s your chief need, there are four-colour office printers that will suit you better.”
PCMAG reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“if you want high-quality photos at larger than letter or legal size, the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 costs less than the competition and prints gorgeous photos (as long as you’re willing to wait a little). That more than enough reason to put it on your short list.”
Photo-i reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“The SP1400 together with Claria inks has been producing some excellent colour prints throughout this test. The printer driver by default opens up in a Basic setup mode, from here you can select media size and surface, and you can select a quality via the top row of icons. For many casual users this may be sufficient.”
Reviews.cnet reviews the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and writes;
“We were impressed with the prints we got from the Epson Stylus Photo 1400. Colors were generally accurate, and the printer did a fine job of preserving detail in both very bright and very dark areas of our images. Of course, the brightness of the whites and the depth of black will vary based on the paper you choose. “
Epson Stylus Photo 1400 User Reviews
Great Photo Printer, | Rating:
“From 4×6 to 13×19 I have been getting nothing but wonderful prints. In order to achieve this, I do use a screen monitor and ICC profiles, but after all of the calculations are done, the printer has to do its job and this one does splendidly. If you are a fairly serious amateur photographer (I use my printer only for photos) this is a great buy today. I couldn’t be more pleased. “ – by Der Oestricherreicher
Great printer, ink-thirsty, | Rating:
“Color-matching is excellent with Epson paper. I use Epson Premium Semi-Gloss. Once I Figured out how to use the right color profiles with Photoshop, the match was as good as I used to get on the 960. I think. “ – by Stephen Strange
Very Good Printer, | Rating:
“The 1400 is faster, quieter, and produces beautiful color prints.. The 1400 uses a mixture of colors to create blacks and grays rather than using black and gray inks, and the B&W prints are awful. However, there is a workaround which will use the single black ink cartridge to print very good quality B&W… This is the ONLY paper selection which will allow using the black ink cartridge rather than combining the several colors. This will give you a very good B&W image with no colorcasts. This transforms a disappointing printer into a very good printer.” – by V. Webb
Great Print Quality!, | Rating:
“This printer is absolutely amazing! I bought it because I had to print over 20 pages for my fashion portfolio and didn’t want to go to Kinko’s to pay $11 per page. I was totally 99% pleased when I noticed the speed and print quality of this printer; it prints 13×19″ faster than my other printer prints on 8.5×11″ paper. It prints absolutely vibrant and accurate colors… What you see on the computer screen is how it prints on paper.” – by A. Scantlebury
Very nice printer makes big beautiful photos., | Rating:
“I bought the Epson 1400 to replace a 1280 that I had for 8 years. I loved my 1280, but when it broke down, the 1400 was on sale, so I took the plunge. The newer printer is faster and the quality is even better. I am a little scared about the price of ink since all of the colors are separate, but I should not have to buy them as often (I hope). This printer makes great photos up to 13″x19″ full bleed and I highly recommend it.” – by Holly A. Lenz
Great photo printer – can’t beat the price!, | Rating:
“I purchased this printer to use with my Macs, a 17″ G4 laptop running OS 10.4.8 and a 24″ iMac desktop running OS 10.5.8. Installation was less than five minutes per machine and I was up and running. So far I’ve been printing from both Photoshop CS3 and iPhoto on 8.5″ by 11″ glossy photo paper and have been extremely satisfied. I’ve haven’t tried Apple’s Aperture, but expect similar results.” – by D. Weaver
Great Printer (if you buy compatible inkjet cartridges), | Rating:
“Epson outdid themselves on this printer. I have owned 8 other Epson inkjets & their earlier monochrome Action Laser Printer. Utilization of the 1400 would be nightmarish if compatible inkjet cartridges were not available. This machine slurps the inkjet at an alarming rate, but the quality is to be commended. “ – by Sim F. Sutterby, Sr.
Great for graphic design!, | Rating:
“I’m currently a student studying graphic design and have kicked myself for going to Kinko’s and not getting this printer sooner. It has a wide range of print capabilities, and the print quality is awesome. If you find yourself wanting to print high quality photos, this printer is an ideal investment.” – by Ryan Wunn
The Espon Stylus Photo 1400 printer is excellent!, | Rating:
“I’ve owned this printer for over a year and I’ve been very happy with it. I’ve used it to create photo prints for competitions and contests and won several awards and ribbons from what I printed from this printer. So, you tell me now what you think of that! Yes, I am very pleased…” – by D. Brinkley
I love it, | Rating:
“I love this printer, because it gave me good quality pictures. People have said it uses a lot of ink quickly, and I agree it does suck a lot of ink. However, I am not surprised since it IS a photo printer, and has individual cartridges. The only thing I will gripe about is that it does NOT come with a cable to hook up the printer to the computer. So go and buy the a to b ( i think? ) usb cable.” – by Douglas H. Lighter
Very Happy, | Rating:
“The print quality is equal if not slightly better than the 1280. Installation was a breeze on a Mac, In the last 3 days I have printed 12 border-less 11/14’s and my ink still shows 100% When it’s time to purchase new ink, I’ll be heading to [..] for their refill kits. I’ve used them for 8 years now without a single complaint. Don’t hesitate to purchase this printer. You’ll be happy you did.” – by Randy J Smith
