How do professionals print their photos?
Hello everyone!
I intend to do an exhibition soon in my town, I would like to print my photos in good quality and probably frame them with a simple black thin wooden border.
But here is the question.. Where? How and on what do pros print their photos?
Do they print them in simple printing studios (like Kodak etc..) on photo papers?
Do they print them in more printing oriented places on other type of papers? (like the posters etc..).
Is Matte printing better then glossy?
Best time of day to avoid over and under exposure
I did a photoshoot this weekend and we shot for most of the day starting at 10 am. I di alot of equestrian photography and I was shooting a stallion for his owner.
It didn’t seem to matter where I moved or where I had her move the horse, it was either blown out or too dark, too much highlight of too much shadow. I kept my F stops below f8 for good DOF and I kept my ISO at 400 or less, most of the time it was at 100 as it was super sunny. I had my shutter speet pretty high, betweek 250 and 500. Should I have had it higher? Should I have been shooting in the evening? Here are some samples from the shoot. [ Join Discussion ]

Selling Your Photography Skills
Under Sell ?

I receive a call from a local frame & art gallery owner who displays some of my work here in town, He asked if I would be interested in shooting a wedding and gave me the contacts name. When I called the groom he explained he was going to have a 15 minute ceremony and thats it, nothing fancy and was hoping to get some pictures of it next Sunday at 2pm, most of you have seen my work and I don’t consider myself a wedding photographer. So I told him I would shoot it and burn whatever I had to a CD for $150.00 and we made the deal.
I think I sold myself short but was thinking more of being able to add the shots to my portfolio. What do you think?
Discussion: Hummingbird Photo Tips
What am I doing wrong?
Posted by DeEtta Houts on May 27, 2008 at 1:29pm in DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES
Yesterday I was shooting humingbirds and the weather was cloudy and crummy. To get a decent exposure I had to have my ISO between 800-1600, I had my shutter speed at 1/4000 to catch thier wings and f5.6. I was using my 75-300mm lens with a focal length of 271 and I was having trouble getting sharp focus.
Was this because of the high ISO? What setting could I have changed? I had the same issue today, same kind of weather so lighting was about the same. Would love some advice.
Wedding Photography Tips for Beginners

In 2 mths i’m going to be shooting my first weding for a friend. He has seen some of my work and loves it. Now again i’m an amateur and he’s asking me to shoot his wedding. I am so nervous because i don’t want to mess up the greatest day of his life. What i mean by that is i don’t want to take pictures and then they messed up (blurry, motion, bad shots) stuff like that. What can i do? how should i handle this? What can i do not to mess up? How should i carry myself throughout the whole process?
Photographing Silver Jewellery Discussion
Sally, one of our online photo community members, writes;
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has any useful advice for me. I run my own online jewellery boutique and I need to redo all of the photos on my website. The problem I have when photographing silver is that it tends to look gold in the photos. I honestly do not know how to use my camera like I should, I have tried reading the booklet, but it’s all Russian to me =) I have a Casio EX-Z75.

My questions are:
What are the ideal settings?
What sort of lighting should I use, and if using natural sunlight, would it be better to have it behind me when taking the photo, or behind the photo I am taking a picture of?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated =)

A photography instructor gave our class a list for quality control:
- check exposure: appropriate for subject, mood?
- check sharpness: tack sharp where needed, depth-of-field appropriate?
- check the light: is it special?
- check the composition: clean, clear, lack of distraction?
- check the creative and emotional values: emotion conveyed, your unique perspective revealed?
Discussion: Doubts on quality possibilities
Hello to all! I’ve had a canon power shot… it broke… but was handy to travel with…Have a Sony DSC F505V… useless in the sun (only lcd screen), and too big to carry anywhere that’s not a SPECIFIC outing to take pictures… on a cloudy day or indoors! and have just acquired an Olympus Stylus 820…. am excited about LEARNING.
Photography has always been my postponed hobby… but now I’m reading your comments in the forum, and I see that most cameras are NOT “point and shoot”…

Have I made a mistake in buying such a camera, even though it seems to have good “qualifications”?Are any of your beautiful pictures taken with a “point and shoot”? I’m sure it’s just me having to learn about lighting, etc…
