PDN Photography Annual 2007 Award Winners

Photo District News (PDN) has announced the winners of the PDN Photography Annual 2007;

pdn-award

“As PDN’s Photo Annual marks another year of extraordinary photography, we honor the contest winners who grace the following pages. From Lauren Greenfield’s heart-wrenching multimedia project, “Thin,” to Gary Schneider’s hauntlingly beautiful photo story about obesity, this year’s contest was a study in extremes. Whether it be apoignant social statement, such as Jan Grarup’s Newsweek documentation of the devastation in Darfur, or a perfectly nutty ad campaign like Lyndon Wade’s for Nestle Crunch, each image has its own identity, worthy of recognition.”

David VS Goliath in Stock Photography Industry

Business2.0 Magazine has published an article on how the giants of the stock photo business (ie. Getty Images and Corbis) are being challenged by the “microstock” agencies.

War in Stock Photography Industry

“Unless they adjust to the new reality, however, the giants could find themselves in trouble. Getty (Charts) has been profitable since it was founded–last year it took in more than $800 million in revenue–but magazine advertising is in decline, as is the demand for its kind of high-end photos. During the past year, Getty’s stock price has taken a dive, dropping from $90 a share at the start of 2006 to just over $50.”
