Pentax E10 – Review @ DigicamReview
DigicamReview have recently published a review of the Pentax E10, a 6 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 3x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 35-114mm), 2.4″ LCD screen and a plastic compact body.

“Image quality is slightly below average, the images have poor colour with low saturation, and generally poor colour accuracy. Detail is average, and images are slightly soft. Images are noisy inside and outside on bright sunny days. Purple fringing was fairly low, as was red-eye. There was some softness in the corners of images. The camera struggled focusing the majority of the time indoors, taking numerous attempts to get a picture in focus. Images taken using flash indoors came out looking unsaturated, and occassionally underexposed. I did not notice vignetting in photos, nor did I notice barrel or pincushion distortion. There is a good range of image sizes, and a good choice of compression options. Auto white balance, metering, and exposure seemed to be good. The video mode is below average.”

Pentax Optio A10 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams have recently posted a review of the Pentax Optio A10, a 8.2 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 3x optical zoom lens (38-114mm equiv) with built-in Anti-camera shake, and a 2.5″LCD screen.

“Pictures were generally good for a point-and-shoot camera at ISO 50 and 100. We saw very slight JPEG artifacting at the lowest compression setting. Noise was barely evident at ISO 50, rose a bit at ISO 100, became noticeable at ISO 200, and was abundant by ISO 400. The ISO 800 setting is available in only Candlelight mode at a reduced resolution of 4 megapixels and generates enough multicolored speckles to render the images barely acceptable.”

Pentax Optio W10 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams have posted a review of the Pentax Optio W10, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) waterproof point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 16.02.06) with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 38mm – 114mm) and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“One of the most important aspects of image quality for this specific camera, is its underwater results. I was very surprised at how well it captured images in the water. Shooting samples in our bathtub of some toy frogs showed the W10 can capture sharp images, with good flash exposure as long as the subject is about 1.5 – 2 feet away. When you get closer, however, the flash is a bit too intense. When shooting underwater, the flash is a necessity, although you can turn it off if desired. Although I was not able to test it in a swimming pool, I think this would be the best environment for this model.”

“What’s Hot:Compact digicam is waterproof to 5 feet without any additional housing, video mode of 640×480 at 30 fps with sound, Zoom works while recording video
What’s Not: LCD screen is tough to see underwater when the sun is overhead, No manual aperture or shutter controls, 2-step shut and lock is easy to forget before submersion”

Digitalcamerareview have posted a review of the Pentax Optio W10, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) waterproof point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 16.02.06) with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 38mm – 114mm) and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“I was very impressed with the image quality of the Optio W10. Images showed accurate color and good exposure in a variety of conditions. Detail in the images was excellent throughout the entire frame. Chromatic aberration was very hard to notice, but I did see some reddish edges when looking very closely at some images containing some high contrast areas. Macro performance was also very impressive, showing good detail on a lot of close-up shots.”
In conclusion they write;
“Pros: Waterproofing, Good battery life, Easy operation, Excellent image quality
Cons: LCD hard to see in bright conditions, Slow shutter lag when focus lock is not achieved first”

Pentax Optio M10 – Preview @ DigitalCameraInfo
Michael Chiusano had his hands on the new Pentax Optio M10, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35-105mm) and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“The layout and design of the controls, however, is excellent, and entry level users who don’t care to quibble over controls may find that the ability to easily use their camera is more important to them. It’s probably a better value for pure novices than those who have had a digital camera before, but ultimately, the camera’s worth comes down to image quality. Check back for our full review of the Optio M10 in the coming months for a complete analysis of color accuracy, resolution, dynamic range, noise, speed and timing, as well as other performance characteristics.”

Pentax *ist DS2 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has posted a review on Pentax *ist DS2, a 6.1 megapixel CCD sensor Digital SLR camera with 2.5″ LCD screen and the ability to run on AA batteries. He gives the camera 2 out of 5 stars and writes

“The image noise was practically non-existent at ISO 200, at ISO 400 it’s still very clean, and at ISO 800 shadow noise becomes noticeable. At ISO 1600 noise becomes noticeable in highlights, but the images are quite usable. I would use ISO 3200 only if it made the difference between capturing an image or not. While noise is present at the higher ISO settings, the *ist DL compares favorably in this respect with the high-end prosumer digicams that overlap its price range. “

Pentax Optio S6 – Review @ Digicamreview
Digicamreview has recently posted a review on Pentax Optio S6, a 6.0 Megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5″ LCD Screen.

“Noise is acceptable upto ISO200. At ISO400 noise is clearly visible, and this setting should be avoided – beware of the auto mode choosing this in dark conditions. The Candlelight mode is best avoided as well, but could be used for acceptable 6×4 prints when you didn’t want to use the flash. The best results are achieved by sticking with the lowest ISO settings, such as ISO64 and ISO100.”
