“The lens is effectively free of distortion throughout its range, and it is only when the macro mode is used, a mode that locks the lens at the widest angle, that some barrel distortion becomes visible. At the telephoto end however, no pincushion is noticeable, and whatever the focal length in use, the T10’s lens shows no trace of any chromatic aberration, from wide angle through to telephoto, even when imaging a subject that contains strong contrasts…The colour rendition of the T10 is excellent with outdoor subjects that are well lit…”

In the conclusion they write;

“We were looking for a compact, thin, fast, camera with image stabilization. Out of the 10 tested, one clearly finishes ahead, the Canon Ixus 800-IS. It doesn’t have major disadvantages, it’s good for macro, video and has a 4x zoom instead of the 3x of most of its competitors.”

Pentax Optio A10 - Review @ DPInterface

“Sadly, I cannot recommend the Pentax Optio A10 because I don’t know how many photo opportunities you’ll miss with this camera: Sluggish performance plus below average battery life is already a bad combination. If you’re looking for an ultra-compact with good battery life, a big LCD, image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity, take a look at the Sony T30 or if you’re looking for manual controls, scene modes, fancy movie mode and 8 megapixels, consider the Casio Z850. Ultimately, the Pentax Optio A10 is not a good buy.”

Pentax Optio A10 - Review @ CNET

CNET have recently posted a review of the Pentax Optio A10, a 8.2 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 3x optical zoom lens (38-114mm equiv) with built-in Anti-camera shake, and a 2.5″LCD screen.

“Shooting performance was sluggish for a camera in this class. Power up to first image captured measured approx. 3.6 seconds. Shutter lag when pre-focused was approx. 1/10 of a second, slowing to a staggering 1.1 seconds including autofocus time. …..Bottom line - While the Pentax Optio A10 offers some appealing features (8-megapixels, Shake Reduction, etc.), the overall performance of this camera in all areas was disappointing. It does have the ability to capture pleasing photos that have enough resolution to create poster size prints. However, its poor movie mode results and extremely slow shooting performance really bring the model down.”

pentax-optio-w10

“The Pentax Optio W10 is a good camera for extreme shooting. Its design lets it shrug off water and dirt that would destroy other cameras. Its performance and image quality leave a lot to be desired, though, and you might want to look for another camera if you’re not planning to go swimming with it. “

Pentax E10 - Review @ DigicamReview

DigicamReview have recently published a review of the Pentax E10, a 6 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 3x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 35-114mm), 2.4″ LCD screen and a plastic compact body.

pentax-e10

“Image quality is slightly below average, the images have poor colour with low saturation, and generally poor colour accuracy. Detail is average, and images are slightly soft. Images are noisy inside and outside on bright sunny days. Purple fringing was fairly low, as was red-eye. There was some softness in the corners of images. The camera struggled focusing the majority of the time indoors, taking numerous attempts to get a picture in focus. Images taken using flash indoors came out looking unsaturated, and occassionally underexposed. I did not notice vignetting in photos, nor did I notice barrel or pincushion distortion. There is a good range of image sizes, and a good choice of compression options. Auto white balance, metering, and exposure seemed to be good. The video mode is below average.”
