“The layout and design of the controls, however, is excellent, and entry level users who don’t care to quibble over controls may find that the ability to easily use their camera is more important to them. It’s probably a better value for pure novices than those who have had a digital camera before, but ultimately, the camera’s worth comes down to image quality. Check back for our full review of the Optio M10 in the coming months for a complete analysis of color accuracy, resolution, dynamic range, noise, speed and timing, as well as other performance characteristics.”

“The image noise was practically non-existent at ISO 200, at ISO 400 it’s still very clean, and at ISO 800 shadow noise becomes noticeable. At ISO 1600 noise becomes noticeable in highlights, but the images are quite usable. I would use ISO 3200 only if it made the difference between capturing an image or not. While noise is present at the higher ISO settings, the *ist DL compares favorably in this respect with the high-end prosumer digicams that overlap its price range. “

Pentax Optio S6 - Review @ Digicamreview

Digicamreview has recently posted a review on Pentax Optio S6, a 6.0 Megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5″ LCD Screen.

“Noise is acceptable upto ISO200. At ISO400 noise is clearly visible, and this setting should be avoided - beware of the auto mode choosing this in dark conditions. The Candlelight mode is best avoided as well, but could be used for acceptable 6×4 prints when you didn’t want to use the flash. The best results are achieved by sticking with the lowest ISO settings, such as ISO64 and ISO100.”

“With an intuitive menu structure, manual control options which are accessible to the beginner, playback features that should entertain and a 2.5-inch LCD with a touch screen interface, the Pentax Optio T10 certainly looks to be a strong competitor in the new touch screen market. The camera has a 1/2.5-inch, 6 MP CCD, and includes a vast wealth of still image parameters and a fully functioning movie mode with 30 fps and a 640 x 480 resolution. There are a number of general shooting modes, a manual focus option that has a basic interface and manual controls in general which reflect the simple, clean and understated design of the entire camera. “

Pentax *ist DS2 - Review @ PCMag

Terry Sullivan has recently posted his review on Pentax *ist DS2, a 6.1 megapixel CCD sensor Digital SLR camera with 2.5″ LCD screen and the ability to run on AA batteries. He gives the camera 2 out of 5 stars and writes

pentax-ds2

“Our daylight shots revealed little noise at 100 or 400 ISO, a bit more at 800, and a significant increase at 1600 and 3200, all of which is pretty standard. But compared with the D50, the DS2 introduced more grain and colored noise. We were also disappointed with the quality of the daylight still life, which was underexposed by about 1.5 to 2 stops, resulting in a dark image. Moreover, the picture lacked the sharpness that a D-SLR should produce. Color saturation was good, however, especially in the reds and yellows, despite the underexposure. There was a bit of fringing in the image, but nothing too conspicuous.”

“If you have a camera-killing lifestyle but enjoy taking pictures, then the WPi is the ideal solution. It is well made, looks superb, handles well, has reasonably good image quality and can survive and take pictures in conditions that would destroy any other camera. There’s nothing else on the market like it.”

Pentax Optio WPi - Review @ DigitalCameraReview

DigitalCameraReview has posted their review on Pentax Optio WPi, a 6.0 Megapixel point-and-shoot water resistant digital camera with 3x optical zoom and 2.0″ LCD screen.

pentax-optio-Wpi

“The Pentax Optio WPi is a great choice if you’re looking for a waterproof camera (and don’t need to go to great depths). The waterproof, dustproof body has a rugged feel, but a stylish look. The camera also takes good, 6 megapixel images in a variety of conditions. I experienced good exposures in tough lighting situations, and good, if a bit saturated, colors. Noise levels were acceptable and the flash was enough to illuminate dark, normal-sized rooms.

The Pentax Optio WPi is a great option for someone who thinks they’ll need a camera in wet conditions. For example, I would love to take my digital SLR fly fishing with me, but it’s not going to happen. Having a waterproof Optio WPi would be great for capturing an image of the one that didn’t get away and then videoing the release underwater.”
