Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 review by Jeff Keller

Jeff Keller from DCRP reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 and wrote:
“Camera performance is above average in most areas. The camera starts up fairly quickly, autofocus speeds are snappy, and there’s no noticeable shutter lag. The camera focuses well in low light situations thanks to its AF-assist lamp. Battery life is very good for a small camera. Photo quality is good, though images could be sharper. Purple fringing and redeye are also a problem.
If you want a capable and compact point-and-shoot camera, I’d recommend taking a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9. It’s not without its flaws, but its large screen, image stabilizer, good photo quality, fancy movie mode, and easy-to-use menu system make it well worth your consideration. “

Olympus Stylus 800/mju Digital 800 Review by Jeff Keller

“Photo quality on the Stylus 800 is a mixed bag. Images are very sharp — perhaps too much so — and there’s no way to adjust that. Noise levels are above average, which shouldn’t be too surprising as this camera has a lot of pixels crammed on a tiny sensor. The camera can shoot as high as ISO 1600, though the resolution is lowered to 3 Megapixels and noise levels are pretty high. Otherwise photos were well-exposed with accurate colors and low purple fringing levels. Redeye was a problem, as it is on most cameras in this class.
If you’re looking for a compact camera with a good feature set, all-weather durability, and some manual controls, I’d recommend taking a look at the Stylus 800. The image quality isn’t going to be as good as you’d find on a camera with a larger sensor, but for what most people will do with these photos, it’s fine. “
Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-R1 review by Fotopolis

Fotopolis.pl reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 and wrote:
“Robust body, control dials and buttons finished to a high standard, ergonomic grip - Sony DSC-R1 wins with most budget DSLRs that are currently on the market. Couple that with 10 megapixel resolution and all the necessary shooting modes, and you get a powerful photographic tool. “What about the lack of interchangeable lenses?”, some might ask. One has got to bear in mind that we are talking about a prosumer digital camera that is supposed to appeal to as many consumers as possible. Still, the built-in Zeiss zoom is constructed in such a way so that it is a perfect partner for the R1’s sensor - this combination easily outperforms many budget DSLRs, especially when they are combined with the not so good kit lenses (slower and with a much less versatile zoom range). Sony DSC-R1 is capable of delivering sharp, detail-rich, highly saturated images. Fast response, impressive auto exposure performance and accurate white balance are among other pros. Very good battery life is also worth stressing.

More Canon EOS 5D Previews
Doug Harman from Pocket-Lint.co.uk had his first look on Canon EOS 5D and wrote:
“What we have here is a very highly specified machine indeed, but given its professional bent, there are a couple of surprising omissions. There’s no water or dust resistance and there’s no sound memo feature. While the latter is a minor omission, the former may be off putting, particularly for any professional that regularly shoots outdoors. However, given the projected pricing of the new camera of around £2540 it is still very temping, we’ll just have to wait until the review sample arrives to see just how well it performs in earnest rather than the hands on look we got while at the launch. ”
