Olympus E-500 - Review @ LetsGoDigital

Let’sGoDigital has recently posted a review on Olympus Evolt E-500, an entry level Digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixels, a 2.5″ LCD Screen, and SSWF anti-dust reduction system.

olympus_e500

“Whereas the E-300 still received some comments as far as image quality was concerned, the Olympus E-500 has truly grown. A resolution of 8 Megapixels offers more than enough for most photographers. In addition, it should be said that they are beautiful and very useable pixels. Digital noise pretty much only plays a part at ISO 1600; even ISO 800 still perfectly suffices, an area where Olympus had failed me in the past. Credit where credit be due! Olympus deserve even more credit in fact, for their simple solution to create your own white balance. This is truly as easy as it gets! When working in artificial light it I would definitely recommend making your own white balance, especially when taking photos in JPEG. The colour reproduction is of good quality, as is the sharpness of the standard Zuiko Digital lens. “

Olympus E-500 - Review @ CameraLabs

Gordon Liang has reviewed the Olympus E-500, an entry level Digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixels, a 2.5″ LCD Screen, and the legendary SSWF anti-dust reduction system. In conclusion they write:

olympus_e500.jpg

“The Olympus E-500 is a mixed bag with plenty of things going for it, but equally a number of aspects which could be considered deal-breakers by some photographers. Highlights of course include the SSWF anti-dust system, an impressively high level of information and control for a budget body, along with an increasing number of high quality lenses - check back in the future for full reviews of four Zuiko Digital models including the impressive 7-14mm ultra wide angle zoom.

On the downside though, the anti-dust process imposes a serious delay every time the camera powers up, the motorised manual focusing (and lack of anti-shake options) could seriously infuriate some photographers, the lack of detail when zooming during playback is disappointing, while the view through the viewfinder has to be one of the smallest from any digital SLR; it’s also a missed opportunity not to automatically switch off the monitor when you go to compose a shot”

Nikon Coolpix L1 - Review @ Megapixel

Megapixel has posted their reviewed on Nikon Coolpix L1, a 6.0-megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom, a large 2.5-inch LCD. They write:

nikon-L1

On the optics side, the Coolpix L1’s 5X zoom, more powerful than what is usually seen on a compact camera of this type, provides a reach that can be very useful. At the widest angle images tend to be a touch soft-focus, particularly when the camera has used the widest aperture. And, since the camera tends to maximize the aperture to prevent camera shake, the widest aperture is generally what is used. The rest of the focal length range of the zoom is tack sharp, and be it at the wide angle end or at the telephoto end, distortion is invisible.

“Live view operation in Mode A and Mode B hold no surprises - using it makes one wonder why it wasn’t introduced a long time ago. Noise - a simple side by side image comparison with an E-500 seems to indicate a significant improvement in noise suppression with the E-330.”

Olympus FE-120 - Review @ Steve’s Digicams

Steve’sDigicams has posted their review on Olympus FE-120, a 6.0 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera with 3x optical zoom and 1.8″ LCD screen.

olympus_fe-120

“Ergonomics are good. It has a good feel in your hands, and is still small enough to be tucked away in your backpack or handbag. The controls are easily reached by your finger tips and because of its fully automatic operation, the menu system is very simple and straight-forward. The only issue I had was with the position of the flash, it was very easy to block it with a finger from your right hand.

Image quality was average for a 6-megapixel entry-level model. The majority of our sample photos were sharp and showed pleasing color saturation.Bottom line - Olympus’ FE-120 may not be our first pick for a consumer looking for an easy to use point-n-shoot digital camera”

Olympus E-330 - Preview @ CNET

CNET have recently posted their preview on the new Olympus Evolt E-330, the first Digital SLR camera with interchangeable lens system & Live View which enables you for framing of shots without the need to look through the view finder.

olympus-evolt330

“Upside: Obviously, the big upside is the live LCD preview, and the fact that Olympus has implemented it the right way, by equipping the camera with an LCD that flips out and swivels for maximum viewing flexibility.

Downside: As with any first-of-its-kind product, the Olympus E-330 is, to some extent, an unknown quantity. We won’t know until we try the camera whether the LCD viewing implementation works well or if its new Live MOS sensor (just a CMOS chip, presumably) is up to snuff.”

Olympus Evolt E-500 - Review @ CNET

CNET has reviewed the Olympus Evolt E-500, an entry level Digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixels, a 2.5″ LCD Screen, and the legendary SSWF anti-dust reduction system. CNET gives the camera 7.4 out of 10 (very good) and writes:

Olympus E-500

“The Olympus Evolt E-500’s images are generally excellent, particularly at the lower ISO ratings. In most shooting conditions, our test photos showed nicely balanced colors, good sharpness, accurate automatic exposures, and no visible purple fringing around contrasty details.

Our test images were clean and free of noticeable noise up to ISO 400. A handful of colorful speckles show up in dark areas at ISO 800, but even at that setting the highlights show little noise. Images shot at ISO 1,600 are fairly noisy, although the noise-reduction feature makes it less noticeable–with the trade-off that shooting time is doubled. “
