CNET have recently posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L2, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 21.02.06) with 3.5x optical zoom lens (36-126mm equivalent) and a 2.0″ LCD screen.

nikon-coolpix-l2

“Despite the Coolpix L2’s simplicity, image quality is surprisingly good. Shots have pleasing colors, although automatic white balance bleaches beige walls and curtains white. Test images are mostly sharp and crisp. The Nikon L2 has solid macro capabilities, although it’s tricky to get the subject in focus; at wide angles, the camera is frequently unable to focus. We noticed occasional purple halos along high-contrast edges, but the camera did a decent job of preserving highlights and shadows.”

Nikon Coolpix P3 - Review @ CNET

CNET have published a review of the Nikon Coolpix P3, a 8.1 megapixels (CCD sensor) point and shoot digital camera with 3.5x optical zoom lens (36-126mm equivalent), a 2.5″ LCD screen, Vibration Reduction (VR), and a Built-in WiFi.

nikon-coolpix-p3

“Image quality is where the Nikon Coolpix P3 really shines, overshadowing any shortcomings in its Wi-Fi implementation and almost overcoming its flawed performance. Colors are neutral but rich and pleasing, from the bright greens and blues in landscapes to the subtle tones of human skin. Noise levels are below average in the Nikon Coolpix P3, with images appearing very clean at ISO 50 and ISO 100, usable at ISO 200, and tolerable at ISO 400. Unfortunately, at ISO 400, the noise softens the detail significantly.”

Nikon Coolpix S5 - Review @ DCViews

DCViews have recently posted a review of Nikon CoolPix S5, a a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), a 2.5″ LCD screen.

nikon-coolpix-s5

“The Nikon ED f/3.0-5.4 35-105mm optical zoom lens produces sharp results in the centre of the image throughout its range, but there is some notable vignetting in the extreme corners of the pictures. Also we noted that corners were definitely lacking in sharpness…Despite some rather obvious shortcomings such as the tiny controls and reflective LCD screen coupled to the average lens quality, the Nikon S5 would still make a nice addition to the family’s photographic gear as an elegant ladies’ camera, to capture the kids at play or to record snapshots on holiday. “

Nikon D50 Tutorial by KenRockwell

Ken Rockwell has written a simple tutorial on how he uses and sets up his Nikon D50, a 6.1 effective megapixel Nikon DSLR camera with DX Format CCD sensor, a large 2.0-inch LCD inch screen, a refined 5-area auto focus system, continuous 2.5 frames per second frame-rate, and Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Metering II.

nikon d50

“ISO: I use 200. If the light gets dim and my images would get blurry from slower shutter speeds I increase the ISO to 400, 800 or 1,600. I never bother with in-between settings like 250 or 640. The D50 looks fine at ISO 1,600 if you need it. I’d much rather have a slightly grainy but sharp image than a less grainy but blurry one. Unlike film, the D50 looks great at high ISOs, so I use them anytime I need them.”

Nikon D200 - Review @ Shutterbug

Shutterbug’s George Schaub has posted a review of the Nikon D200, a Digital SLR camera with a 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor, 5 frames per second with bursts up to 37 JPEGs (Fine-Large) or 22 NEF (RAW) images and a large 2.5″ LCD screen.

Nikon D200

Pros: Superb lens, with manual focus ring and mechanical zoom feature, Ultrahigh 10-megapixel resolution, gorgeous colors, snappy contrast, superlative image quality at ISO 160-400 with or without flash, Better than average digital noise control at ISO 800 and 1600 for a prosumer digicam, Includes the most important features for serious photography

Cons: Some exposure and White Balance problems in low light, but can be solved with overrides, Long shutter speed NR system is too aggressive; avoid using this feature when possible, In camera sharpening algorithm does not produce ideal results in large prints, Can shoot only three JPEGs in a sequence; in raw capture, no Continuous advance and slow data recording due to (uncompressed) 20MB file size”

Nikon Coolpix S5 - Review @ DigitalCameraReview

DigitalCameraReview has recently posted a review of Nikon CoolPix S5, a a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), a 2.5″ LCD screen.

nikon-coolpix-s5

“Auto ISO images are generally excellent with sharp resolution, bold colors, and lots of snap (although some very minor pattern noise is occasionally visible in shadow areas). ISO 50 and 100 images are consistently excellent with very good detail and virtually no noise. ISO 200 images are surprisingly good, essentially the same as lower ISO images. Noise levels rise noticeably at ISO 400 - images are a bit flat and some fine detail is lost (Noise comes through as an overall soft graininess sort of reminiscent of high speed film). I did see some blotching (chroma noise) in a couple of ISO 400 images.”
