Nikon Coolpix P4 – Review @ PhotographyBlog
PhotographyBlog’s Mark Goldstein has recently posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P4, an 8.1 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ LCD screen, and a built-in Vibration Reduction (VR).

“…The Nikon Coolpix P4 produced images of very good quality during the review period. The 8 megapixel images were a little soft straight out of the camera at the default sharpening setting and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Adobe Photoshop. Alternatively you can change the in-camera setting to one of four levels to suit your taste. The Nikon Coolpix P4 dealt very well with chromatic aberrations, with limited purple fringing appearing only in high contrast situations and at the edge of the frame. Macro performance is above average, allowing you to focus as close as 4cms away from the subject. The built-in flash worked well indoors, with no red-eye and good overall exposure. The night photograph was a weak point, with the maximum shutter speed of 8 seconds in the Night Landscape scene mode not being that versatile. “

Nikon Coolpix P4 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has recently posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P4, an 8.1 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ LCD screen, and a built-in Vibration Reduction (VR).

“…the P4 offers additional in-camera sharpness settings of High, Normal, Low and Off. The white balance and exposure system did well under various lighting conditions, producing images with accurate color reproduction and good saturation…
Bottom line – Nikon’s Coolpix P4 is a capable compact digicam that produces good quality 8-megapixel images and VGA sized movies. Beginners will enjoy its fully automatic and scene assist modes, while intermediate users will be able to get creative with Aperture priority and the range of adjustments available in Programmed auto mode.”

Nikon Coolpix L4 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has recently posted its review of the Nikon Coolpix L4, a point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 21.02.06), featuring a 4 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), and a 2.0″ LCD screen.

“The overall image quality of its 4-megapixel High quality mode was very good. Our outdoor samples were sharp, well exposed and had pleasing color saturation. The exposure system did a great job of capturing sky detail, although whites were sometimes blown-out in bright sunlight. Like the other members of Nikon’s L-series, ISO sensitivity is fully automatic; there’s no manual adjustment available. I saw very little noise when the camera was using a lower ISO setting, but as with most consumer models, these levels will become more noticeable as the sensitivity is increased. The lens exhibited noticeable barrel distortion at full wide angle, but essentially no pincushioning at the telephoto end. Chromatic aberration, also known as “purple fringing”, was very well controlled, with only very slight amounts present around highlights or brightly lit subjects.”

Nikon Coolpix S5 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has recently posted a review of the Nikon CoolPix S5, a a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“The Coolpix S5 has a lot of appeal to those wanting ease of use and good image quality in a very small stylish package. It offers several unique features that distinguish it from the competition, including D-lighting, Red Eye Fix and Best Shot Selector. But it suffers from low flash output and sometimes selects a low shutter speed that results in images blurred by camera shake. “

Nikon Coolpix S6 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has recently published a review of the Nikon Coolpix S6, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 21.02.06) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), a huge 3.0″ LCD screen, and a Built-in WiFi. In conclusion Steve writes;

“I was pleased with the overall image quality when using 6-Megapixel Fine mode. Outdoor images showed good overall exposure, with colors being nicely saturated. Noise levels were very low at sensitivity settings of ISO 50 and 100. Shadow noise is present at ISO 200, and noise is noticeable throughout the image at ISO 400, although those images are quite usable.”

Nikon Coolpix L2 – Review @ DigitalCameraReview
Megapixel have recently posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L2, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 21.02.06) with 3.5x optical zoom lens (36-126mm equivalent) and a 2.0″ LCD screen. In conclusion they write;

“I was impressed with the image quality. Colors were accurate and skin tones looked good and weren’t too warm or reddish….
If you’re in the market for a simple to use, affordable camera, the Nikon Coolpix L2 is an excellent option (as are its siblings, the Coolpix L3 and Coolpix L4). The ease of use of this camera is hard to beat and it produces consistently good images. Most entry-level users will also be pleased with the Nikon Exclusive Feature System – the Face Priority AF makes focusing a portrait a no brainer and the D-Lighting will correct the lighting on shots to provide pleasing results. “

Nikon CoolPix S5 – Review @ TrustedReviews
TrustedReviews has recently posted a review of Nikon CoolPix S5, a a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-116mm equivalent), a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“Noise control was generally very good, producing very clean results at 50 ISO, but there was some colour distortion in darker areas visible from 100 ISO upwards.
The worst offender though was the lens, which is usually a Nikon strongpoint. This time I found badly blurred corners at both ends of the zoom range, as well as severe barrel distortion at the wide-angle setting, something I’d associate with cheap cameras at the other end of the price range. See the attached sample images to see what I’m on about here.”

Nikon Coolpix L2 – Review @ Megapixel
Megapixel have recently posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L2, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera (released on 21.02.06) with 3.5x optical zoom lens (36-126mm equivalent) and a 2.0″ LCD screen. In conclusion they write;

“Used to capture subjects indoors, the performance of the Coolpix L2 is not as good as when photographing outdoor subjects. The auto focus can have trouble attaining focus under standard illumination levels, and often requires being presented with a clearly defined contrast zone such as the hard vertical edge of a piece of furniture to focus. In addition, unless exposure compensation is used, the combination of a small and somewhat anaemic flash and the L2′s preference for low ISO values tends to yield fairly dark images as soon as the subject is more than 2m (6 ft) away.”

Nikon D50 – Review @ PhotographyReview
PhotographyReview have recently posted a review of the Nikon D50, a 6.1 effective megapixel Nikon DSLR camera with DX Format CCD sensor, a large 2.0-inch LCD inch screen, a refined 5-area auto focus system, continuous 2.5 frames per second frame-rate, and Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Metering II. In conclusion they write;

“The Nikon D50 lives up to its promises and is a quality camera inside and out. I am a control freak and giving up some control for the sake of automation had me worried. Needless to say, the results speak for themselves and I am very impressed. There is little sacrifice to be made with the D50. I made a big decision after reviewing this camera. When I realized how much fun it was to use the Nikon D50, I sold all of my Canon gear and switched back to Nikon. The D50 and the D70s performed so well for me, I felt completely comfortable making the switch. I recently bought an F6 and a D200. And I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the D50 for a travel or vacation camera. “
