“Images typically came out fairly soft and colours carried the typical Fuji coolness that I’ve come to love. In addition to this, the onboard flash on the camera is fairly powerful and well placed. Red-eye was minimal under all shooting conditions. The lens provided for some great shots both close up and at long distance with only a minimal amount of purple fringing to be noticed in most shots. In some, it was glaringly obvious, but it was a rare occurrence. This is due more to the fact that most point-and-shoot cameras just don’t have the quality of optics offered in the lenses for true SLR cameras.”

“On the whole I was pleased with the quality of the images I managed to produce with the Finepix Z2. The camera had no problem focusing in standard lighting conditions and the colours are strong. Although there is a slight fall off in sharpness towards the edge of each photo this is typical of this type of digital camera and is nothing to be overly concerned about with this camera.

..There is a lot to like about the Fuji Finepix Z2. It has a very stylish design and is easy to use. There are now a large number of digital cameras to choose from if you are looking for a pocket sized camera. At its current price I feel it is a bit expensive and better value can be found elsewhere. “

Bloomberg reported that Fujifilm will eliminate 5,000 jobs and shift some production to China from Japan.

“Fuji Photo’s plan symbolizes an end to the film camera era,” said Hiroshi Chano, who helps oversee $6.7 billion at Yasuda Asset Management Co. in Tokyo. “The digitalization of the camera industry occurred at much faster pace than I expected. Reorganization will be a painful process for Fuji Photo.”

By taking these restructuring steps, we hope to reduce fixed costs and secure stabile profits in our imaging solutions division,” the Tokyo-based company said in the statement. “

“The Fujifilm Finepix F11 produced images of fantastic quality during the review period. The 6 megapixel images are a little soft straight out of the camera and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Adobe Photoshop. Unfortunately there are no in-camera sharpening options. The Fujifilm Finepix F11 dealt very well with chromatic aberrations, which only appeared in a few of the test shots – very limited fringing effects could only be seen in very high contrast situations. Macro performance is above avearge, allowing you to focus as close as 5 cms away from the subject. The built-in flash worked well indoors with no red-eye and good overall exposure. The night photograph was very good too, with the maximum shutter speed of 15 seconds offering lots of scope for creative night photography. The Fujifilm Finepix F11′s most impressive feature in terms of image quality is the extensive and very usable ISO range of 80-1600.”

DigicamReview have today posted their review on Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200, a 5.0 Megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom and running on 4AA batteries. Here’s what they say about image quality & noise:

“The camera has good colour – It took a good “Heather and Flower” photo – there is no red-eye in the photo. It has a decent flash, and copes well with group photos, although on AUTO ISO, the ISO setting is often increased, in this photo, the automatic ISO chose ISO400, and the photo appears to have high noise reduction applied resulting in a loss of detail, and the photo appears soft. The camera did a good job at focusing even in low-light.

Noise is visible in photos taken at ISO200 and ISO400, however, there appears to be quite strong noise reduction which does remove detail – ISO200 and ISO400 photos are still usable with quite acceptable results which is good, as a lot of other cameras produce unusable images when ISO200 or above is used. Noise levels at ISO800 and ISO1600 are very high…”
