Sony CyberShot DSC-H5 Vs. Canon PowerShot S3 IS

DCViews have recently published a side by side comparison of Sony Cybershot DSC H5 and Canon Powershot S3 IS. Here’s what they have to say about the image quality;

sony-h5-vs-canon-s3

Sony Cybershot DSC H5 Sharpness: With 7 Mp and a Carl Zeiss lens the camera captures a lot of detail. The in-camera sharpening is moderate but delivers crisp pictures. The Super Steady Shot does a good job for handheld shots. In spite of the noise reduction enough detail is kept at ISO 400. Canon Powershot S3 IS Sharpness: The S3 has one megapixel less than the H5 and in some situations detail is a bit less than with the H5. The default sharpening in the camera is a bit high, but can be adjusted by the user.”

    Canon PowerShot A430 - Review @ ImagingResource

    ImagingResource has posted a review of Canon PowerShot A430, a 4.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera with 4x Optical Zoom lens (39 - 156mm equivalent), and a 1.8″ LCD screen

    canon-powershot-a430

    “It powered up quickly and shut down quickly, too — a big help when you’re biking around the city to take a few shots. That nimbleness is what first attracted me to the A430, no question. And the gorgeous images it captured sealed the deal…Finally, those AA batteries are a feature in themselves. A set of four NiMH rechargeables, using two for backup, will last for years. And if you ever find yourself stranded on a desert island with weak batteries, you only have to go down to the Seven-Eleven to get a fresh set.”

    Canon PowerShot A540 - Review @ DPInterface

    DPInrterface has reviewed the Canon PowerShot A540, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 4x Optical Zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent) and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

    canon-powershot-a540

    “The PowerShot A540 also has good battery life though competition is getting better. The LCD is at its largest size as well (for an entry-level camera), being a good 2.5 inches with nice visibility. Despite that, the resolution is not at all high. Got a problem with the LCD resolution? At least there’s an optical viewfinder. “

    Canon PowerShot S3 IS - Review @ DigitalCameraInfo

    DigitalCameraInfo has recently posted a review of the Canon PowerShot S3 IS, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 12x Optical Zoom lens (36 - 432mm equivalent) with Canon’s Image Stabilizer, and a 2.0″ Vari-Angle LCD screen.

    canon-powershot-s3-is

    “..the Canon PowerShot S3 IS is one of the larger ultra-zoom cameras. It still doesn’t even approach the size of a DSLR, though: it falls somewhere in between. The design certainly doesn’t aim to be compact like the ultra-zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. Instead, this chunky digital camera goes for hybrid functionality in a sturdy plastic shell. Its protrusions will keep it from conveniently sliding into a pocket, and users should look into purchasing a small camera bag for transporting it. “

    Canon PowerShot SD700 IS/IXUS 800 - Review @ DCRP

    DCRP has recently published a review of the new Canon PowerShot SD700 IS/IXUS 800, featuring a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor), 4x Optical Zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent) with Canon’s Image Stabilizer, and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

    canon-powershot-sd700-front

    “The PowerShot SD700 did a very nice job with our standard macro test subject. The colors look good, and the subject has Canon’s trademark “smooth” look to it. The camera’s custom white balance feature handled my apparently tricky studio lamps with ease…The PowerShot SD700 is a compact and very stylish camera. It’s made almost entirely of metal, and it feels nice and solid. The camera is easy to hold and operate, though some of the buttons on the back of the camera could be larger. “
