Canon PowerShot A540 – Review @ Steve’sDigicams
Steve’sDigicams has reviewed the Canon PowerShot A540, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 4x Optical Zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent) and a 2.5″ LCD screen.

“When it comes to image quality, Canon’s models are almost always at the top. And, the A540 is no exception. We were very pleased with its Large SuperFine 6-megapixel images. Our sample images were sharp, well exposed, and showed accurate color balance. As you can see from our kayak shots, the exposure system of this model does an excellent job of capturing sky detail. Imager noise is an issue we touch with just about every model we test, and the A540 showed very little, if any, when using ISO 80 and 100. As the ISO sensitivity is increased, so does the noise; a common problem with almost all consumer cameras. Unlike the usual cut off at ISO 400, the A540 (and 530) allow you to use an ISO speed as high as 800. This will allow the use of higher shutter speeds in marginal lighting conditions, which helps reduce the effects of camera shake (blurring.) While noise levels are very noticeable at ISO 400 and 800, I still feel the usefulness of being able to capture images when you just can’t use the flash is much more important. Sure you don’t want to make large prints with these images, but your typical 4×6′s will still be usable.”

Nikon D200 Vs Canon EOS 5D – Review @ DigitalCameraInfo
Alex Burack & Patrick Singleton have recently posted their head-to-head review of the Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 5D and wrote;

“The D200 is a much faster camera with a more logical ergonomic design. With the Nikon, users can turn the camera on and snap off a shot in a single motion – an action that would require two hands and far more time with the 5D. The D200 can also shoot 5 frames a second, while the 5D can only muster 3. This combined with the D200’s more robust body (not to mention its more affordable price tag), makes it a much more formidable alternative for photojournalists or casual shooters.
At lower sensitivity settings (ISO 100-400), the two cameras produce images of comparable quality in terms of noise, color, dynamic range and sharpness. While the 5D still retains a slight edge, the difference is negligible for the quality both cameras produce. However, once the sensitivity is pushed to ISO 400 and beyond, Canon earns the extra $1,300 tacked on the 5D’s price tag. At sensitivity settings beyond ISO 500, the 5D continues to create images of exception quality, while the D200 falters and produces results more consistent with consumer-level designs.”

Canon PowerShot SD450 / Digital IXUS 55 – Review @ PhotographyBlog
Mark Goldstein jus posted his review of the Canon PowerShot SD450 / Digital IXUS 55, a 5.0 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera with 3x optical zoom and 2.5″ LCD screen. He’re what he said about image quality;

“The Canon Digital IXUS 55 produced images of slightly above average quality during the review period. The 5 megapixel images were a little soft straight out of the camera and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Adobe Photoshop. The Canon Digital IXUS 55 dealt well with chromatic aberrations, which only appeared a few of the test shots – limited purple fringing effects could only be seen in high contrast situations. Macro performance is above average, allowing you to focus as close as 3 cms away from the subject. The built-in flash worked well indoors with virtually no red-eye and good overall exposure.
The Canon Digital IXUS 55′s main drawback in terms of image quality, however, is noise. The 1/2.5 inch, 5 megapixel sensor used in the Canon Digital IXUS 55 produces noisy images even at the slower ISO settings. ISO 50 and ISO 100 look fine, but there’s already a lot of noise at ISO 200, which isn’t exactly a quick speed, and ISO 400 is virtually unusable.”

Canon EOS 30D – Review @ DCRP
Jeff Keller has reviewed the Canon EOS 30D, a digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS), 5 fps frame rate, 9-point autofocus, spot metering and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“The EOS-30D did a great job of controlling noise all the way through ISO 400. In the ISO 800 shot we start to see some minor detail loss, and it gets a bit worse at ISO 1600, but the shot is still very usable with a little cleanup. Heck, even the ISO 3200 shot could be turned into an acceptable 4 x 6 inch print with a little post-processing in NeatImage or Noise Ninja.
Photo quality was excellent on this 8.2 Megapixel camera. Photos were well-exposed, with accurate colors, very low noise levels (even at high ISO sensitivities), and minimal purple fringing. As is the case with most D-SLRs, photos are on the soft side straight out of the camera, and you can compensate for this by increasing the in-camera sharpening a bit. One thing that really got nailed home during my time with the 30D is how important lens quality is. I bought the Canon 17 – 85 EF-S lens a few months back, and have been less than thrilled with its sharpness — and you’ll see the results in the photo gallery. Slap on some better glass and you’ll get much sharper photos, as the photos taken with my 50 mm lens attest.”

Canon EOS 30D – Review @ CNET
Lori Grunin has reviewed the Canon EOS 30D, a digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS), 5 fps frame rate, 9-point autofocus, spot metering and 2.5 inch LCD screen. She gives the camera 8.4 out of 10 (Excellent) and writes

“The good: Excellent low-light performance; fast and responsive; straightforward controls; nice balance of features for both experienced and rookie photographers.
The bad: Pop-up flash casts shadow with some lenses; viewfinder provides only 95 percent view; average battery life; 1.6X lens-conversion factor.
The bottom line: The 8-megapixel Canon EOS 30D should be on your short list for a semipro dSLR camera. “

Canon PowerShot SD430 – Review @ TrustedReviews
TrustedReviews has recently posted a review on Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH, a 5.0 megapixels (CCD) digital camera with 3x optical zoom ( 35-105mm f/2.8-4.9), 2.0″ Color LCD with Night Display Control and a built-in wireless control for image transfer and printing.

“Of course all this clever technology wouldn’t be much use if the picture quality wasn’t up to snuff, but thankfully the IXUS has no such problem. The small lens does produce some slight blurring in the corners of wide-angle shots, but overall the picture quality is superb, with good contrast, very high levels of sharp detail and minimal barrel distortion. The DIGIC II image processor is fast and accurate, with very accurate metering producing excellent colour reproduction, and very good noise control at 50 and 100 ISO, and only a little noise at higher settings.”

Canon PowerShot S3 IS – Preview @ DigitalCameraInfo
Emily Raymond has recently posted a preview on Canon PowerShot S3 IS, a 6.0 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 12x Optical Zoom lens (36 – 432mm equivalent) with Canon’s Image Stabilizer, and a 2.0″ Vari-Angle LCD screen.

“The Canon PowerShot S3 IS has a lot of solid functions, but its actual image quality has yet to be tested. Its predecessor, the S2, produced noisy images that didn’t have great colors for a Canon. Still, the S3 has a whole new image sensor. With a 6 megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD that is more sensitive, the Canon S3 has completely revamped and hopefully improved inner workings.”

Canon PowerShot SD430 – Review @ PCWorld
PCWorld has recently posted their review on Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH, a 5.0 megapixels (CCD) digital camera with 3x optical zoom ( 35-105mm f/2.8-4.9), 2.0″ Color LCD with Night Display Control and a built-in wireless control for image transfer and printing.

“At $500, the SD430 is a bit on the expensive side for a 5-megapixel camera, and you seem to be paying a big premium for the wireless features. It’s $100 more than the Nikon P2, which also includes wireless. However, in our tests the Canon had a slight edge over the Nikon in producing high-quality images, and the SD430′s comparatively smaller design makes it an appealing choice for people who want a pocket-size camera and don’t mind paying extra.”
