Canon EOS 30D - Preview @ Digit.no

Digit.no has a preview on the new Canon EOS 30D, a digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS), 5 fps frame rate, 9-point autofocus, spot metering and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

canon-eos-30d

“After having used the camera for nearly two weeks and taken some 400 pictures, my first impression is very good. I liked the EOS 20D and I love the EOS 30D. My equipment was quite large and heavy (slightly above 1.5 kg) but the camera lies exceptionally well in the hand and the operation is generally intuitive and comfortable.

My only concern is the position of the main switch. As it doubles as a lock for the quick-dial, I see the necessity of placing it close to the dial, but I would prefer a position above the dial, rather than below it.”

Canon EOS 30D - Preview @ Photo.net

Bob Atkins had has written a review on the new Canon EOS 30D, a digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS), 5 fps frame rate, 9-point autofocus, spot metering and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

canon-eos-30d

“I don’t think there is currently a better camera for the price. While 20D owners may not be dumping their cameras in droves and upgrading to the Canon 30D, I think a lot of first time buyers and those upgrading from the Digital Rebel series or earlier DSLRS like the 10D or D60 will find the 30D an excellent choice. The 20D owners can now probably afford that 17-85IS or 10-22 wideangle zoom they have been lusting after if they decide not to trade up to a 30D!”

Canons EOS-1D Mark II N - Review @ Shutterbug

George Schaub has posted a review on Canons EOS-1D Mark II N, a professional Digital SLR camera featuring 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS) performance at 8.5 frames per second and 2.5″ LCD screen.

eos-1dmk-2n

“You should consider the Mark II N if you are yearning to improve your action photography, as that’s what it is built for. Should you get it if you only occasionally shoot action and might use it more for the usual digital SLR fare? If you are a Canon user then I think not, as the new EOS 5D, recently reviewed by David Brooks, offers full frame and a higher megapixel count for somewhat less money. It’s not that the Mark II N delivers an inferior still frame image; image quality is dazzling as befits a pro digital SLR. But use it for the purpose for which it’s intended and you’ll be thrilled to have a tool made for the sports and action photographer.”

Canon EOS 5D Banding Issues

Chuck Westfall, Director/media & Customer Relationship at Canon USA, has made a comment on Canon EOS 5D banding issues.

eos-5d

“There may be cases where random noise or pattern noise [banding] stands out in images taken at high ISO settings. This is because the noise component is also amplified at high ISO settings. Various measures are taken to reduce noise, but the fact is that it cannot be entirely eliminated technologically. We are continuing to work on reducing noise even further.

The following shooting techniques can reduce or prevent the occurrence of noise.”
* Whenever possible, use low ISO settings (ISO 800 or lower)
* For subjects that do not move, use One-Shot AF mode

Horizontal line noise may be somewhat more noticeable for the following six lenses when compared to other lenses, but horizontal line noise with these lenses can be reduced by replacing parts.”

Canon EOS 30D - Preview @ DigitalCameraInfo

Patrick Singleton had his hands on the new Canon EOS 30D, a digital SLR camera with 8.2 Megapixel (CMOS), 5 fps frame rate, 9-point autofocus, spot metering and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

canon-eos-30d

“Canon’s EOS 30D is numbered as if it were a major upgrade to the popular and excellent EOS 20D, and Canon marketing plumps it up even higher than that – the line is that it really has more in common with the 5D than the 20D. Really? With the same 8.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, the same DIGIC II image processor, the same 9-point autofocus system and the same 5 fps burst rate as the 20D, the 30D seems more like a respectable update of the 20D than anything else. When Canon put a bigger LCD and picture styles on the 1D Mark II, they changed the name to the 1D Mark II n. This new camera shows comparable improvements. We’d call it the “20D n,” if it were up to us. “

Pros: Very good photo quality (though see issues below), Compact and stylish metal body, Built-in Wi-Fi for wireless transmittal of photos to a PC or printer (though see issues below); Camera can be controlled wirelessly; Printer Adapter included (Nikon charges $50 for theirs), Very good performance, 2.0″ LCD is viewable in low light conditions, AF-assist lamp, Very good movie and continuous shooting modes (though see issue below), Unique My Colors feature, USB 2.0 High Speed support

Cons: Some corner softness; noisy images at high ISO settings, Redeye is a problem, $100+ price premium for Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi features aren’t Mac compatible — yet, Can only record about 8 minutes of VGA video due to 1GB file size limit, Battery life isn’t great, More manual controls would be nice, Can’t swap memory cards while camera is on a tripod.”
