Canon Selphy DS810 - Review @ PrinterSpot

PrinterSpot’s Marc Frochtzweig has posted a review of the Canon Selphy DS810, a three-colors compact inkjet photo printer with wireless support, PictBridge, memory card slots, and a 2.5″ LCD Screen.

“With only three inks, the DS810 produces good images compared with printers in its class but won’t match output from most other printers with more inks. Overall the DS810 is a decent compact inkjet printer, though models offered by other manufacturers can produce the same quality prints for less money. It’s also worth looking at compact dye-sub models (like Canon’s CP710), which have better-looking — and cheaper — prints.”

Canon iP6220D - Review @ ITReviewsUK

ITReviewsUK has posted a review of the Canon iP6220D, a twin cartridge inkjet printer with USB 2.0 port, PictBridge, Memory Card Slot, Infrared receiver and 2.5″ LCD Screen.

canon-ip6220d

“Print speed is very acceptable, taking 2 minutes and 45 seconds to print an A4 borderless photo and one minute 13 seconds to print a 6 x 4-inch borderless photo. The print quality met the usual high standard that we expect from Canon. The build quality is a bit flimsy and the front cover and card reader flaps can smack into each other if you’re not careful, but when you consider the features, speed and price that’s a minor problem.”

Photo Printing Tips at PopPhoto.com

Popular Photography & Imaging’s Aimee Baldridge has published 20 very usefull tips on getting good photo printing result. Here’s one of them;

printing-paper

When should I use glossy paper and when matte?
Glossy papers can make colors look more vibrant and give black-and-white photos a broader apparent tonal range. The way that light reflects off a glossy surface makes blacks look blacker. Glossy papers are also good for photos that will be handled instead of displayed, since they’re often more durable, though they show fingerprints. For aesthetics, many serious printers prefer fine art papers with a matte finish; these also minimize reflections when framed. If you’re using a matte paper to print b&w, you’ll get the best results with a color ink set that includes a “matte black”—which you may have to swap with a “photo black” cartridge—or a custom monochrome ink set with four or more inks. The wider range of black ink densities will compensate for the loss of the reflectivity of glossy paper. If you want to use very thick matte papers, get a printer with a straight paper path that won’t damage your media.”

Olympus P-11 Photo Printer - Review @ SteveDigicams

SteveDigicams has recently reviewed the Olympus P-11 Photo Printer, a 310 dpi printer with USB and PictBridge connection.

olympus_p-11

“The P-11 is VERY FAST with an average printing time of just 33 seconds (not counting data transmission time.) This makes it the fastest dye sub printer that we’ve reviewed yet! Most other 4×6″ dye sub printers take anywhere from 60 to 90 seconds per print. Another nice feature is that the prints do not come out of the printer with those pesky tear-off tabs on both ends, they’re 100% borderless and ready to be shared.

The P-11’s print quality is excellent, it’s as close to lab quality as it gets from a home or small business printer. Compared to prints from a HiTi dye sub, the P-11 prints are a little more contrasty but I’m sure they will satisfy today’s digital camera users. The PictBridge direct-print feature is super-handy and the vast majority of new digicams are compatible with it. This means you can take the highly portable P-11 along with you to a party or event and make prints right there without need of a computer. It also elminates the problems of color matching between camera, computer and printer - a major stumbling block for many digital newbies. “

Photo Printing Tips

How Many Pixels Make A Good Print?

One of the more common dilemmas for people is choosing the paper size for printing their photos. Everybody knows that if your digital camera does not produce enough pixels (or actually megapixels) printing its photos on a large paper size will yield poor quality and you will be able to see the actual pixels (also known as pixelation)

Printing Tips

So how many megepixels do I really need in order to print on a specific paper size? there is no one right answer for that. The actual quality of the print depends on many factors other than the number of pixels. For example the paper quality itself the printing process that is used the lighting conditions when the photo was taken the photo itself (i.e. portraits are different than scenery) and much more.
