Canon PowerShot S100 Reviews
PhotographyBlog reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Image quality is excellent, with a perfectly usable ISO range of 80-1600 and fast f/2.0 maximum aperture, albeit only at the wide-angle lens setting, making the S100 very well-suited to low-light, hand-held photography. It’s also possible to capture the blurred backgrounds and sharp subject that most compacts struggle to achieve, while the 5x zoom offers a longer reach than the S95,…”

T3 reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Add in 1920×1080 video clips with stereo sound, integral GPS for location tagging of images, pop up flash and the ability to shoot standard JPEG or unprocessed Raw for top quality pictures and the Canon PowerShot S100 is a veritable pocket rocket for those who like the feel and functionality of bridge cameras and DSLRs, but hate the bulk.”

Techradar reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Take into account the superb handling, impressive image quality – particularly at high ISOs – slick, detailed Full HD video, plus a responsive, accurate GPS system, and you have the recipe for a pretty remarkable camera that you can take anywhere.”

Digitalcamerareview reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“The 24 to 120mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens on the S100 displays a bit of barrel distortion at the wide-angle end while telephoto proved fairly distortion free. There’s a bit of softness in the corners at wide-angle but edges remain fairly sharp; telephoto is likewise a bit soft in the corners but otherwise fairly consistently sharp.”

Expertreviews reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Image quality is where the S100 really excels. By bringing together the larger sensor size of the S95 with the back-illuminated CMOS technology of other recent Canon cameras, it produced the lowest noise levels we’ve ever seen from a conventional compact camera. There was a slight loss of subtle details at ISO 1600 but shots still looked smooth and sharp.”

Cameralabs reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Overall the movie quality of the S100 is very good. The bump from 720p to 1080p resolves finer detail and puts it ahead of the S95, LX5 and XZ-1, the various slow motion and effects modes are fun to use, and while the optical zoom isn’t as smooth as it could be, I’m just happy Canon has finally enabled this facility after locking it down on previous models. “

CNET reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“The S100 performs exceptionally well at low ISO levels. Images taken under ISO 200 show minimal amounts of noise and excellent colour rendition. Chromatic aberrations are visible given the wide aperture of the lens but are mostly kept under control. At full 5x zoom extension the S100′s lens is among the sharpest we’ve seen on a compact of this class, maintaining good detail and not falling off significantly in sharpness towards the edges of the frame.”

Thinkdigit reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“On evaluating the scores for each of our tests, we found that Canon Powershot S100, dethroned our last year’s best performing camera – the Olympus XZ1. This is the best high end compact in the market today. You will never fall short of any features including the battery sipping GPS… But then this camera is for the discerning photographer, who wants excellent quality in the compact body.”

Digitaltrends reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Video has also been upgraded in the S100. The camera shoots crisp, clear 1080p video at 24fps, and in general AF wasn’t too noticeably laggy or loud. We were also pretty happy with how smooth zooming was while recording. For standard point-and-shoot recording use, you’re fine, but for any particularly fast-paced, action-packed scenes you’ll want to bump it down to 720p at 30fps. It’s a trade-off, obviously, and you’ll have to sacrifice image quality.”

Photoreview reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Flash exposures fared better than available-light shots, although shots taken at ISO 6400 were unsharp. The flash also had insufficient power to provide correct exposures at the 26mm focal length with ISO settings below 400.”

Ephotozine reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“The camera provides great image quality, a longer and wider zoom than the S95, and with a slimmer body it should fit even more easily into pockets. I can see this camera, like the S95, being very popular with anyone who wants to travel light, yet still take good quality photos.”

Popphoto reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“In the Popular Photography Test Lab Canon’s S100 outperformed its predecessor and scored a Very High rating in overall image quality from ISO 80-200. The main contributor to that rating was its score of Very High in our resolution test with 2100 lines per picture height at ISO 80, which dropped to 2000 lines at ISO 200.”

Dcresource reviews the Canon PowerShot S100 and writes;
“Sharpness was good in most cases, with photos sporting the traditional Canon “smooth” appearance. The camera keeps noise in check through ISO 800 in good light, which is at least a full stop better than your typical compact camera. By shooting RAW, even ISO 3200 is usable for small and midsize prints. Purple fringing levels were quite low in most situations. As with the S90 and S95, redeye was a problem, though you can remove it using the tool in playback mode.”

Amazing Camera For Outdoor Activities
“Excellent picture quality, Best image stabilization I have ever seen, very small, buttons and controls are easy to figure out and not so easy to change by accident, the camera has some interesting special effects and shooting modes but for me, I do all that in Photoshop, I like the automatic lens cover, and the flash is quite powerful for it’s size, you can turn the GPS off completely to save battery life, the burst mode is amazing for action shots, it seems quite solid with a case made of metal…” – By Ed A. A pretty good enthusiast compact
“The video is excellent for a compact camera. Generally very clean and excellent audio. It wouldn’t take the place of a camcorder. But it’s a great choice if you want a camera that shoots quick videos of decent quality…” – By S. Vogt

The ultimate prosumer pocket camera
“I am also very, very pleased with the speed of this camera in all respects — start-up speed, zoom speed, and most importantly image capture speed. Probably 3x-4x faster than my G10 at least, with a high speed SD card. After messing with the lens cap on the LX-5 for the two weeks I had it, the S100 felt like a miracle with its nicely shielded lens, that opens quickly and quietly…” – By Alder Yarrow

Excellent quality in a tiny package
“I heard good things about the S95 so when I heard that a new version of this camera had been released I decided to go for it. I have not been disappointed. The image quality is excellent. It is of course not up to the same standard as my Nikon D7000 but I have been pleasantly surprised at just how capable the S100 is. For the money and the tiny size it is a very good performer…” – By Ian Nicholson

Low Light Beast
“I have been using this camera for a little over a month now and I am totally satisfied with the quality of the pics. I have used it at family gatherings, concerts, daylight, nighttime, these are the best pictures I ever saw on a compact camera period. I recommend this camera to anyone that’s looking for excellent pictures but don’t want to carry around a full size DLSR.” – By G One “Lara Fan”

Outstanding point and shoot camera
“I do not own a DSLR because I do not want the weight and bulk. I carefully researched many point and shoot cameras before buying the S100. That said, I am extremely happy with this camera. It takes much better pictures than my Canon ELPH SD780. Better accuracy in focusing, better color, and sharper…” – By Douglas Y Park

Really nice camera
“As an owner of the S95 (ie previous model) there was an expectation that this upgrade model would be better and it is. It handles a broader contrast range without whiteing out and generally performs well under a wider range of photoshoot conditions. Worth the upgrade for the better quality pictures (and S95 was good)….” – By Older London academic

Fantastic, Feature Rich, Compact Camera
“If you’re looking for a fantastic, compact camera that is feature rich look no further. You can let the camera do all the work or set things to manual or find middle ground. I do wish Canon would come out with a better panorama mode… If you only need a “point and shoot” camera, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you like more control or room to grow, the S100 is worth considering.” – By G. Ponder “Coppertop”

Excellent Point and Shoot and Worthy Successor to S95
“I took comparison shots in my home using both cameras and I found a slight advantage for the S100 in terms of image quality. There was a bit more detail using the S100, but honestly it wasn’t significant. Still, in my head-to-head tests the S100 was the winner…” – By AudioFan

Super improvement on an already great camera
“Have had the new S100 for a week now, have taken about 1000 shots in all conditions (day, night, low light, high light) and I have to say that this camera is just about perfect. Shots are sharp, clear, very little distortion across the range. The additional zoom range is a nice addition…” – By RonAnnArbor
