I recently got the G11 but now I'm not as sure it will fulfil my needs. My photo's are outdoors - in climbing scenarios - on very bright sunny days on waterfall ice or on glaciers. I picked the G11 because it was small and had a viewfinder. In the conditions I take photos in, the lcd screens are of no use (under intense sun at high altitude - it's way too bright). Unfortunately, virtually no information is provided through the view finder (other than a rough estimate of zoom). In order to compose a photo then, you still need to use the lcd panel. If you can't see the panel, you are largely guessing at what your picture might look like. Despite its size, I'm probably forced to continue with my Olympus C2100.

The manual specs also say that the camera shouldn't be used below 0C. Hopefully that isn't true as I plan to rarely take a picture above 0C.

Hi all, I used a Nikon D200 and a Nikon F3 for most of my work. This compact G11 is a great little camrea. If your looking for highend photo's go out and buy a highend DSLR. I shoot all types of photos from portraits to macro and everything in between. When I'm out on a shoot I lug a bag of photo gear that would brake the back of the weak, now I take one DSLR and my Canon G11 as a back up to get the job done. The G11 is a fun lovin' work horse. I'm about to do a shoot with an up and coming fashion model, I will start the job with my G11 to put it to the test, so far the G11 can hold it's own up against the big DSLR's. I'm a Nikon guy and realy like the Canon G11. It get's the job done and does it well.

I am an old Leica man- and have been searching for an alternative to my M6 without spending upwards of $2,500 (used M8). To use the Leica "legacy" lenses I use a Lumix G1 with M adapter- I have a beautiful little Leica DeLux 4 (same as a Lumix LX3) and have owned a G7 through G11 trading up each time. The G11 is so far the best of the modern G series. The key to its use, for my style of street photography is the much maligned optical viewfinder. I am forced to use a non zooming accessory v/f on the DeLux 4 The Canon is a distinct improvement. I have shot at very high ISOs and find few problems- Blowing up very large photoshopped images (18X24), there are no noise problems any more than there were grain problems when shooting with my Leica. Frankly I don't know the criteria we are using these days. Sharp, colorful or black and white prints are now a reality with most digicams. The Canon G11 is a lovely machine and will provide the digital imagist with wonderful professional results. vroger
