Canon EOS 5D Mark III Reviews

Photographyblog reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“with the Digic 5+ processor it results in seriously impressive low-light performance, with an almost noise-free range of ISO 50-6400 and perfectly usable 12800 and 25600 settings. The video side of things is also greatly improved, with a more accessible interface, manual exposure, better control of sound and cutting-edge compression rates.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Ephotozine reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“The 22.3 megapixel sensor has excellent noise performance, excellent colours and very good detail and does not necessarily demand premium priced lenses for excellent performance (unlike higher resolution competitors), although certainly benefits from it.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Whatdigitalcamera reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“All the weak areas that the MkII suffered from have been ironed out with the MkIII, and there’s now very little to fault it on, and the more you shoot with it, the more you realise what a complete and capable camera the MkIII is. Whether you shoot landscapes, portraits, editorial, action or nature, the MkIII will be right at home. The EOS 5D MkIII is an excellent DSLR.”

Photoreview reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“JPEG files straight from the camera with the default Standard Picture Style setting were very clean. Colours were rich and traditionally difficult to record colours were captured with good fidelity.”
Rating: ★★★★½

PCMAG reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“The camera was able to keep noise below 1.5 percent through ISO 12800, although there is understandably some loss of detail there when compared with lower ISOs. To my eye, JPG detail was very good through ISO 6400 and excellent through ISO 3200.”

JeffAscough reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“In conclusion I have to say that Canon have addressed every issue that we had with the 5D Mark II and built a stunningly good camera. The more you handle it, the more you realise that there has been a lot of input from professional photographers into this camera, and if you are a photojournalist or anyone that shoots in that style, this is the perfect camera for you. “

Engadget reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“Battery life shouldn’t be an issue on any recent DSLR. Period. This is also the case with the 5D Mark III — you’re likely to fill your memory card long before you exhaust the battery, unless you happen to be using SanDisk’s 64GB Class-10 Extreme Pro SD card — which works beautifully in this camera for both video and 6 fps stills, along with any high-performance CF flavor.”

Imaging-resource reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“A new version of Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software ships with the 5D Mark III. As well as supporting new features of the camera, it adds a Digital Lens Optimizer function for still images. This refers to a built-in database that allows automatic correction of both spherical and chromatic aberration, astigmatism, curvature of field, diffraction, and low-pass filter effects.”

CNET Asia reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“We tested the 5d Mark III in contrasty lighting conditions and the camera had no problems getting a focus lock quickly. The 5D Mark III’s autofocus was snappy and the dSLR was able to track moving objects swiftly. Compared with its predecessor’s 9 AF points, we felt there was marked improvement in autofocus performance.”

Techradar reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“We are also pleased that Canon has given the 5D Mark III the same 3in 1,040,000-dot LCD as the 1DX. This screen provides a sharp, clear view and although we have yet to test it outdoors, the fact there is no gap between the LCD and the glass cover should mean that reflections are kept to a minimum.”

Expertreviews reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“Improvements include better noise reduction, longer recording times and a built-in headphone jack for audio monitoring during recording and playback.”

Digitalcamerainfo reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“There are plenty of things the 1D X has that didn’t make the step down (the 100k-pixel metering sensor, for example), but we’re betting the 5D Mark III’s sub-$3500 price is going to fit into far more budgets than the $6800 1D X.”

Theverge reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“Canon showed a pair of identical photos, one from the Mark II at 6,400 ISO and one from the Mark III at 25,600 ISO, and noise levels were nearly identical. We also saw images from each camera shot at the same ISO, and the Mark III’s improved noise performance was immediately obvious.”

Cameralabs reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“For slow motion. Film at 60fps and you get a two or 2.5 times speed reduction in 30 or 24fps projects without losing smooth motion.”

CNET Asia reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“We brought the camera out on the streets for a spin and found that the images we got were stellar in terms of quality and color. The Mark III’s rendering of skintones was lifelike and produced colors beautifully, especially with reds and greens. The camera also produced pretty good out-of-camera JPEGs that didn’t need much postprocessing. “

Photofocus reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;

Digitalcamerainfo reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“The 5D Mark III improves on the 5D Mark II in nearly every conceivable way, with more sophisticated video control and compression, faster shot-to-shot times, better image processing, an improved autofocus system, and more powerful processing across the board.”

Cameralabs reviews the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and writes;
“The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a very satisfying all-round DSLR. It feels tough, handles quickly and delivers great-looking photos and video. Canon has pretty much addressed all the complaints of the Mark II and also included all the nice extras commonly offered by Nikon, like 100% viewfinder coverage, twin card slots, deep bracketing and an AF system packed with points.”

Canon EOS 5D Mark III User Reviews

Excellent Camera
“I can’t say enough things about the new autofocus system. AMAZING. GENIUS. I rarely have eyes out of focus now. Even my 85mm/1.2L is performing much better. I love the colors and creaminess from that lense but focusing it was like playing a Russian Roulette game.” – By Lissi G

Solid upgrade to a great camera
“The 24-105 lens is a great lens especially stopped down to about F8. good contrast and edge detail, at the wide 24mm side there is a little bit of barrel distortion… but it is so minor most will not see it and if you are using a program like lightroom it is very easy to fix” – By J. Crawford

5D Mark 3 Surpasses Expectations
“Image quality in real world shooting has been amazing. I’m not sure how much to add to this at this point. I have had 2 official shoots so far and the resulting pictures were fantastic.. I have used it with my 24-70 L and 70-200 L and the results have been most pleasing.” – By CanonInBama

5 star step up
“I am highly impressed with the image quality of this camera. Images come out very true to life and are crisp. My first impression: Blown away with the quality. The detail, even when zooming in is crisp and to the point.” – By Theresa

5D MK III Canon’s Best FF Camera Available (Until 1DX!!)
“The high ISO capabilities and quality at high ISO’s is nothing short of astounding! Not only is the high ISO quality great, but I love, love, love the QUALITY of the noise. I have read it several times and I do concur – the noise on the 5D III is film like -it looks more like grain than noise.” – By John Gerald Carnessali “happy man”

Bought it for the AF, but got a whole lot more
“Its like Canon took the very good AF system of the 7D and hyped it up with steroids and sonar – it’s that good! There was no way they were going to let the AF system handicap this camera – and they’ve succeeded.” – By D. K. Miles “dkmiles1″

A substantial upgrade
“This camera blows the Mark II out of the water. Focusing alone is amazing. Video looks great. I am a video professional and this camera was a no brainer for me. For anyone looking to get a great stills camera and very solid video camera- this is the one.” – By john street

My new favorite camera
“I used Av mode with Auto ISO ( Auto ISO set to Max range ). I try to keep Av at f8 unless I have a depth of field, shutter or ISO issue. The 61 Point AF worked well but I also used single-point Spot AF alot. Auto WB was excellent.” – By David Brandenburg

A home run for the 5D series, finally
“Camera startup and operation is near-instant. Shutter lag and mirror blackout is now faster than before and leads to a more instant, responsive feel while shooting. This, combined with the vastly improved AF make for a radically different experience from previous 5D bodies.” – By J. Howell

Exactly what I wanted
“I am extremely comfortable shooing up to ISO 25,600 with the 5D3. Images are still very detailed with very nice looking, fine grain. Images don’t become flat looking and still have a really nice look to them. I will even shoot 51,200 without a problem, although there is a big increase of noise beyond the native ISO values.” – By Invertalon

A huge improvement in almost every way
“Mark III has professional-level autofocus now, with a wide array of cross point locations (exact number varies depending on the lens you are using), and very fast focusing speed. What was a major down-side is now a major up-side.” – By Phil Rosenthal

About the perfect FF camera if you shoot Canon glass
“Much easier to catch birds in flight even with f5.6 glass), 6 Fps (plenty of FPS for weekend BIF warrior / Sports photographer, AF during video using AF button, better high ISO capability (combined with low light AF) is completely worth the price of admission.” – By A. Datta

Initial impressions– an AMAZING camera
“The ISO performance is no less impressive. The Mark II already was a great performer at high ISO, and the Mark III is even better. Stunning, nearly noiseless results all the way to ISO 6400. And still incredible results all the way to ISO 25600.” – By E. Lacey

4.8 stars
“Better AF, 100% viewfinder with electronic grid (no more screens), better LCD, faster drive and processor, fabulous shutter/mirror, 7-stop bracketing, 2-axis level, somewhat lower noise and thus somewhat cleaner images vs. 5D2, two card slots, uses same batteries as 5D2.” – By Coronet Blue

Canon 5D III, has night vision, or so it seems
“Feel is great! One thing that amazed me is the pictures I took at night without flash! I was amazed! its as if it has night vision! Looking forward to learn all its features. I am upgrading from the 7D which I intend to keep as my companion camera.” – By EGodoy

An amazing upgrade coming from 7D
“The lack of noise is amazing, and when there is noise…it’s very pleasing to the eyes and doesn’t take away from it. I’ll be honest, when it was officially released i didn’t think it was too impressive of an update…but the more i use it the more i realize how nice of a camera it is.” – By K. Xiong “callaesthetics”

Best low light performance
“I’ve had the camera for about a week now and it’s a great update to the 5dII and a step up from the 7D. Better construction, better AF, the high ISO quality is really outstanding even at 12,800 and useable up to 25,600 for the web.” – By Ethan Gardella
