Features & Design

Canon EOS 5D Mark III has a body design made of magnesium alloy which is strong and sturdy. The shape of this camera is almost the same as the 5D Mark 2, but with a few changes of the better layout of control buttons. On the left shoulder there is a mode button and the power button with the press button in the middle on the mode dial. While in the left shoulder camera, you will find some buttons to set the exposure manually like White Balance, Autofocus Drive, ISO, including the Shutter release button. In addition to the exposure button, you can see information of the camera settings that used to shooting, it located on the screen panel on the right shoulder of the camera. This screen displays information about ISO, White Balance, Shutter Speed, Aperture, as well as the shooting mode that used to taking a picture.

The design is large and sturdy to give enough space for the 5D Mark III to use the LCD Monitor measuring 3.2-inch with high resolution 1,040,000 – making it easier for users to see clear picture even in bright situations. As with other Canon DSLR cameras, on the right and left side of the screen there are some key settings that have been placed appropriately so easy to use. The buttons consist of a button Live View / video recorder, navigation buttons, and quick menu button to the right of the screen. While the left of the screen there are Menu, Info, and some buttons underneath like Rate, View, Playback, and Delete.

For professional photographers, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III will be enough to make them satisfied with image correction features. These features allow the camera is capable of correcting various elements of the image such as distortion, chromatic aberration, even lighting problems. Coupled with feature Multiple Exposure Control and the latest High Dynamic Range allows users to have more opportunities to obtain high-quality images.

Performance & Image Quality

By combining full-frame CMOS sensor 22.3 megapixels with DIGIC 5 + image processors, no doubt the Canon EOS 5D Mark III is able to deliver excellent image quality. In the JPEG file format, the image is free noise at ISO50-3200 and slightly began to appear in ISO6400. While in the setting of ISO6400, ISO12800, and ISO25600 images appear to have relatively little noise. If you are using ISO51200, the image quality is still quite to be printed in small size or used in websites. ISO can be set up to ISO102400 but should be used only when necessary. From the results of the reviews that have been conducted, the quality of the RAW file is much better than JPEG files on ISO1600.

The quality of night photography produced by the 5D Mark III is also very well supported by the ability of the ISO and shooting modes such as Bulb mode that lets you get clear, sharp images even if you do not use Flash. Production of the resulting color is also very good and is supported by the Standard Picture Style feature that can increase the saturation and contrast of the image and the Neutral mode to improve image sharpness.

In addition to taking photos, the camera also lets you record Full HD 1080/30p and 720/60p are supported by manual exposure control. Video quality is very good even if you record video on a light or dark situations even better than the 5D mark2. Thanks to DIGIC 5 + processor, the video looks free of the color artifacts, aberrations, and moiré.

While the performance of 5DM3 almost equivalent to D800, both of the camera are capable of rapidly shooting continuously. In bright situation, 5DM3 able to focus and shoot in just 0.2 seconds and increased to 0.4 seconds in a dark situation. If you shoot JPEG files the camera takes 0.3 seconds to shoot from the first image to the next image, and slower in the RAW file. For continuous shooting mode, the camera is able to shoot at speeds of 5.6fps that is quite good in this class.

Should I buy the camera?

Overall, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III has a high ability and performance to produce high-quality images making it suitable to meet the needs of professional photographers. In addition to having a classy design, the quality of photos and video no doubt must have been very satisfying and not too require additional editing using special software. Buy this camera if you have much money, and buy others camera like Canon EOS 6D or Nikon D600 if you don’t have much money.
