Canon EOS 3D Rumor

There has been rumor floating around the net lately about the new Canon EOS 3D. One of our readers send us this picture and write that the camera would have 45 AF points with eye control and it’d be filling the gap between the full frame 5D (US$3300) and 1Ds series (US$7150).

Has anybody paid attention to the lens on the “3d” picture? It says 40mm 1.2L.

40mm lens hmmm. sounds like it would be a nice 52mm lens with a 1.3x crop factor as the 3d just may might have…
what do you think?

I’d really doubt that canon would make the new version of the 5d have a 1.3x sensor. The 5d is so popular because it has that full 35mm sensor, I doubt that they would give that up with the next version. At least, i hope not. Because I plan on buying one for that very feature.

The 40mm 1.2 L seems a bit odd. Shouldn’t it be a 50 mm 1.2 L?

Doesn’t it seem stupid that an L lens would be so small? Every L lens, especially at 1.2, would be at 72mm.

I don’t know about the rest of you…but the 3D pic looks like an enhancement of another photo….low resolution, so couldn’t tell if there was any photoshop action.

nice, but!

has anybody noticed, that the 40/1.2 lens has the same dimension (diameter) as the 50/1.4 has? then why hell is the 50/1.2 as big as it is? okay, these are home made PS pics, but should think about that…
anyway I lovethe eye controlled AF system, and the “integrated” vertical grip. CMOS: would be a great idea, if we had the option to chosse between 1.25 or 1.6 crop modes, one for tele and other one for wide.. just another idea:) weather sealing I don’t really care, I’m not that kind of guy who needs that.

Why would the 40 1.2 have a bigger diameter than the 50 1.4? It should actually be the other way around as this simple calculation clearly shows: 40/1.2 = 33.3 and 50/1.4 = 35.7.

Exactly right. The whole reason people have gone crazy over the 5D is that its full frame and for a great price. I wish Nikon would come up with something like that at a competitive price. Once they do, I will jump on it.
