Features & Design
Canon EOS 100D has a small body design that is perfect for small hands photographers. If you are a photographer’s small hands, then this camera will feel comfortable in your hand while holding the handle. The control buttons are designed like other DSLR cameras and is intended for beginner photographers. At the top there is control buttons such as Program, aperture, shutter, ISO, and exposure. Mode button can be used to select one of the automatic shooting modes such as portrait, landscape, macro, sports, and creative modes.
You can preview the images and videos on a 3-inch touch screen on the back of the camera. The touch screen can also be used to set the focus and access the camera menu that allows users to get fast and precise focus and intuitive control. In addition to the LCD monitor, you also will find the Menu button, info, viewfinder and video record button on the top of the screen. On the right of the screen, there is a four-way button with the Set button in the middle including the playback button, delete, zoom in / out.
As with other DSLR cameras, Canon EOS 100D can also capture images in JPEG and RAW file formats at speeds of up to 4fps continuously. Not only that, 9-point autofocus system capable of providing fast focus when shooting with the viewfinder, while the Hybrid CMOS AF II system is able to improve the speed and accuracy of autofocus when you’re shooting using the Live View mode. Other features of the camera to help you get maximum results include the Scene Intelligent Auto Mode, Special Scene Modes, Creative Filters, Effects Shot Mode and Background Simulation.
Performance & Image Quality
For Entry-level camera, the Canon EOS 100D has a focus system that is fast enough and on par with other cameras in the Entry-Level. The camera takes about 0.6 seconds to turn on, focus, and shoot – quite slow when compared to the Nikon D3200. In light situations, the camera takes about 0.3 seconds for focus, expose, and shoot, while in low-light situations increased to 0.8 seconds.
The camera takes 0.2 seconds to shoot JPEG and 0.3 seconds to shoot RAW files. And when using the flash, the camera took 0.7 seconds from the first shot to the next shot. Overall, the Canon EOS 100D has an average performance in the entry-level class with a fast and accurate autofocus making it suitable for photographing children, pets, and vacations.
Speaking of photos and video quality, the Canon EOS 100D produces impressive images. Color photos are not too bad that can be set using the Picture Style feature as well as the handling of image noise is also very good. You can get a clean JPEG images up to ISO800 and still be able to use up to ISO1600 to ISO6800. If you want to print photos sized 13 × 19 using the ISO1600, the picture does not look too clean or sharp, but not too bad.
The video quality is good enough, you can record Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps and 24 fps that is supported by Movie Servo for autofocus during video recording. When recording video, you can adjust the exposure manually including 720p HD video recording at 60fps. For sound recording video, the camera is also equipped with a built-in mono microphone.
