Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye Reviews

The-digital-picture reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM Fisheye Lens is an impressively sharp lens. It is razor sharp even wide open and right into the outer edge of the image circle – which you can of course see entirely when using a full frame lens. Both lenses performed identically.”

Cameralabs reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“There’s no doubt the Canon EF 8-15mm Fisheye is an exciting and original lens. In one fell-swoop it does the job of four models, three of which never existed in Canon’s own catalogue and one of which wasn’t made by anyone at all.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

SLRGear reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“As a result of Canon’s USM focusing system and the relatively short focus throw, it takes well less than a second to go through the focusing range. The lens makes almost no noise as it does this. As well, autofocus results can be overridden at any time by simply turning the focusing ring.”

Techradar reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“On a full-frame camera such as the EOS Canon 5D Mark II, the EF 8-15mm Fisheye is a wonderfully versatile lens that enables you to switch between circular and diagonal fisheye effects with a twist of the zoom ring. Image quality is very good in terms of sharpness, contrast and resistance to ghosting and flare, although colour fringing can be quite noticeable.”

Photozone reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“Typical for a fish-eye lens you will have to live with some CAs in the corner regions – more so at 15mm than at 8mm. Some purple fringing will also be visible in extreme contrast situations but this issue is, again, lower than average for a lens in this class.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Ephotozine reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“At 8mm and f/4, sharpness in the centre of the frame is outstanding. Towards the edges of the projected image circle, sharpness drops off gradually only reaching fair levels at this aperture. As the lens is stopped down, the clarity towards the edges of the image circle improves dramatically and between f/8 and f/11 resolution approaches excellent levels throughout the image circle.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Photo.net reviews the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye and writes;
“Besides the ability to zoom and act as both an 8mm circular fisheye and a 15mm frame filling fisheye on a full frame 35mm camera, the EF 8-15/4L USM can act as a full frame (i.e. frame filling) fisheye with a 180° angle of view on both APS-H format cameras (EOS 1D series) and APS-C cameras (EOS 7D, 60D and digital Rebels).”

Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye User Reviews

So much fun, best fisheye lens for a canon body, or any body!
“I’m glad I did, the lens produces great pictures, very sharp. Great built, weather sealed, solid and smooth feel of the focus and zoom rings. The lens is actually smaller than it looks on the website, not heavy, looks and feels great, but best of all, it produces some really cool shots! Especially using a full frame camera, I use a 5Dmk3 and the shots I get in low light outside are just stunning.” – By Uncle J

A phenomenal joy!
“It offers a full circle image at 8mm, and a very interesting (somewhat bizarre) image at 15mm. I have almost only used this lens on my 5D, and typically at 15mm only. On my 5D, the lens is: super sharp: I think it’s sharper than my 16-35mm/f2.8L, 24-105mm/f4L, and 70-200mm/f2.8L. And it looks like even sharper than my 24mm/f1.4L II.” – By Henry Qiu

very beautiful lens for full frame
“The 15 mm is outstanding for “wall to wall” images and well worth the lens for that 15mm. I uploaded a singel 8mm image that shows this view on a full frame camera (5D Mark III) and it is a good lens at that length for tight nature shoots…” – By ProPhotographer1

Oh WOW
“I tested it on the T2i (first, due to availability of the body within reach) I retreived the 5D MkII and tried out the circular fisheye effect. I am completely astonished with the beautiful picture that is produced. ” – By Quentin Tubbs

My favorite lens
“This is my favorite lens. I use it for 360 VR panos its very sharp compared to other fisheyes I have used. I also use it when I go to parties and want just an easy camera to take pictures of party situations when I’m shooting from the hip. I can just point the camera in the general direction of the action and I get everything. I love it.” – By Low Blood Sugar

Great Lens For Special Effects
“Canon quality as usual. This lens completes my collection of Canon equipment. With my 7D I can shoot from 8mm to 300mm now. This lens in particular at 8mm produces interesting effects on all types of objects, manmade and natural.” – By J. Lowe

Produces High-Quality Fisheye AND Rectilinear Corrected Images
“After many hours of working on the Canon 8-15mm images inside Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop CS6, I am very happy to say this lens is well worth the price tag and more! Some people have complained about “very high chromatic aberrations (CA),” but the Canon 8-15mm is much better than virtually every other fisheye lens in this respect.” – By TR “PixelPusher”
