Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Reviews

Slrgear.com reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and writes;
” This lens tests and performs as well, or better than, any lens tested recently. It is quite sharp across its entire aperture-focal length spectrum; chromatic aberration, vignetting, and distortion are all quite reasonable; focusing is fast and accurate; the build is L-class; and the new 4-stop image stabilization is downright startling in its effectiveness.”

Bobatkins.com reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and writes;
“I do know that the images I got from this lens were very sharp, much sharper than those I was getting from a 75-300/4-5.6IS lens that I owned at the same time. Center sharpness and contrast were better and the edges of the image (full frame 35mm film) were sharper and showed lower chromatic aberration”

Lenstip.com reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and writes;
” In our overall judgment, the results are very good, but when seeing very high results at other diaphragms and focal lengths, we would want more! “

Photozone.de reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and writes;
“The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS may well be the very best tele zoom on the market today – it is certainly the best Canon zoom lens tested locally to date. The lens was capable to deliver a near-flawless performance is all categories. The resolution figures are stunning regardless of the setting. Distortions, vignetting and CAs are nothing to worry about. The build quality is excellent with the new sealing as a another highlight. “

Kenrockwell.com reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and writes;
“The Canon 70-200mm f/4 L IS’ image stabilization works great. I get perfectly sharp shots 50% of the time at 1/8 of a second throughout most of the zoom range. Perfectly sharp means perfect tripod-equivalent sharpness as seen at 100%. At normal magnifications you can get perfect results at much slower speeds.”

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM User Reviews

My Favorite Lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“There is no doubt that this is a great lens. The first time I shot with the f/4L (non IS version), my response to the photos was “oh wow.” I was a new photographer and had not realized the difference a lens can make. The non-IS version is a great lens and the best value in Canon’s “L” lineup. Since I do a lot of work in lower light, I came up against the non-IS version’s limits. There were just too many situations where I needed just a little more aperture power. So I upgraded to the f/4L with IS. I have never, ever been sorry. With both lenses, the colors are incredibly vibrant and the clarity is amazing. I’ve taken shots of people, birds and animals at 200mm. It is as if I was standing next to them. The difference is that the f/4 with IS is more versatile in that it allows more low light photography. “ – by Jazzpooch

canon 70-200 f4 L IS | Rating: ★★★★★
“I have a 5D with this camera, and it rocks, really sharp images. Be careful when using it on a tripod for long exposures. IS could make your images blurry, and I suggest using the mirror lockup function. It does not have a tripod adapter for the lens and the official Canon one is too expensive. I have used it without one with success. If you are looking for this lens, it’s a great tool and the 4stops IS really works. If you are not tired, and there is no wind, and little influence from the exterior, a 200mm shot could be take at almost 1/15 – 1/8 and still be sharp.” – by Hodorogea Dorian Camil

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS lens | Rating: ★★★★★
“My first zoom lens was the 70-200mm f/4L and it is an excellent lens. I needed a very steady hand or a tripod to get the most out of that lens. It is very sharp and light weight, but I do not carry a tripod and soon sold it to help fund the 70-200mm f/4 L IS. I saw a noticeable difference with IS and could carry that lens around all day, take some super sharp shots and it was a pleasure to own. It is also the lens that I most regret selling. I currently own the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS and it is a WOW lens. The sharpness and background blur is awesome.” – by S. Dixon

Excellent zoom lens that you can carry! | Rating: ★★★★★
“There are many reviews on this item, so the quality has already been spoken for, the best thing about this is the ability to carry it everywhere. This is a nice zoom to hike with, going to the zoo, or just shooting the kids outside at play. I have rented the 2.8 version of this one and it can get rough on the arms. Very nice lens, fantastic quality, and easy to use.” – by DigitalProphet

Great staple, “go-to” lens. | Rating: ★★★★☆
“The new lens is wonderful, tack sharp, good build and focuses quickly. I use it to do dog photography and it is great outdoors. Indoors for action shots in low light, I would go with the 2.8 over the f/4 to get those really crisp photos in low light conditions. Otherwise great all around zoom lens at a good price. Image stabilization has really come in handy too.” – by D. Brake

Tack Sharp, Fantastic IS | Rating: ★★★★★
“I purchased this lens over a year ago. This was my first Canon L Series lens. It is called Canon’s sharpest zoom lens, and from my experience, I’d have to agree. The Image Stabilization claims up to four F-Stops. My experience backs this up. At a local park near dusk, I photographed deer handheld at 1/15 of a second and 200mm and the photos were all tack sharp. “ – by Burg

brilliant lens, a tad bit heavy | Rating: ★★★★★
“Simply put, this is the best lens in my kit right now. High speed autofocus and IS just add to the quality of the images. I’m using this lens with a EOS 450D, and the quality is just stunning. Sturdy construction, and feels solid. Fast autofocus, and amazing clarity, IS really adds to the plus points of the lens (a must have for a 200mm lens) “ – by Sahil Ramani

Super lens! | Rating: ★★★★★
“I found many review sites that rated the 70-200mm non-IS version of this lens as the best of the low cost L lens (it is in fact the lowest price L you can get). But I knew my subjects and style would require the use of Image Stablilzation, so I spent more for the IS version (it is actually about twice the price). If you can afford the IS version, get it. Even though this is a big lens, it is not too heavy. Image quality is spectacular! This lens focuses faster and takes sharper pictures than any of the lenses I was using before. Will you notice a difference. YES. You just have to decide if you can afford to spend the money. I never knew what I was missing before. Now I do. Having a constant f4 aperture is great. The bokeh is fantastic with this lens. “ – by Pacman
