Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM Reviews

SLRGear reviews the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM and writes;
“We noted excellent results for sharpness right out of the gate at ƒ/4, and in fact, image sharpness starts to degrade immediately (but very slightly) as the lens is stopped down.. Canon has clearly spent a lot of time on the design of this lens: on the full-frame 1Ds Mark III, there is absolutely no distortion.”

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM User Reviews

One of the best things Canon has done
“the new MkII version of the 600 and it blows away not only Nikon, but the older lenses from Canon’s own stable. First, it weighs almost the same as the old 500, which is amazing in itself. Second, it is super sharp even at f4 (most pros will tell you that to get the best out of these big mamas, you need to close down at least to f4.5). Third, the IS works even better. Fourth, the hood cover is a neoprene vesion, removable with one hand and much lighter too.” – By Primus

Awesome Lens
“I’ve never owned a lens whose sharpest aperture was wide open! This is the first time I’ve spent $13k on a lens. Of course, the image quality from this lens is at a whole different level. Autofocus speed is super quick. This lens is definitely going to improve my birding and wildfire pics.” – By Wanda Klahorst

Features & Specifications

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM Specifications

Featuring Fluorite optics that deliver sharper images with less chromatic aberration, the new large-diameter EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM super telephoto lens also takes advantage of magnesium and titanium construction for a lighter weight and a Fluorine coating that keeps soiling, smears and fingerprints to a minimum.

Because image stabilization technology in super telephoto lenses may inadvertently over-compensate and interfere with composing and framing distant or moving subjects, the EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM includes an advanced third Image Stabilization mode (Mode 3) that activates IS only when the shutter button is fully pressed. This allows users to pan fast-moving subjects and then activate IS only when it is precisely required.

Because all three IS modes give the equivalent effect of up to four extra stops of performance, and because plus the Power Focus mode enables smooth focus change when shooting video, the EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM is ideal for capturing rapid-fire action. Other improvements such as better dust- and waterproofing make the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM super telephoto lens an ultra high-performance Digital Age tool combining Canon hallmarks of superb ease-of-use with excellent durability.
