Brother MFC-5890CN Reviews

PCWorld reviews the Brother MFC-5890CN and writes;
“Photo print quality was better than we expected, and we were even able to print photos on glossy paper from other vendors without any problems. We used Kodak and Epson paper for our tests. The Epson paper produced slightly brighter results, but photos using the Kodak paper were still impressive. Photo prints had well-defined detail. This was especially the case with 6x4in photos, but even A3 photos looked great…”

About.com reviews the Brother MFC-5890CN and writes;
“Three color graphics pages came out in 1:33 (the first page took 36 seconds at normal quality). The colors looked great, though orange seemed to be slightly washed out. A 4×6 photo took 1:35 seconds to print. The colors were slightly dark but nevertheless true to live (they were slightly less vivid than I’ve seen with other printers; and that’s not necessarily a drawback, as I prefer to manipulate a photo if I need it to be more vivid). The printer can print as large as 11×17, a huge advantage if you print signs or extra-large spreadsheets.”

Brother MFC-5890CN User Reviews

Great printer
“I am extremely please with this printer. It operates exactly as advertised. I was looking for a printer that had all of the multi-functionality (print, fax, scan, & copy) as well as one that would print up to 11×17.” – by S. Tracy

Great buy
“I purchased this printer specifically to use at home for printing ledger sized paper (11 x 17) for drawings. It does the drawings perfectly, but all of the other features are an added bonus. It is easy to use – fairly intuitive – and is a great all around machine for home use at an affordable price.” – by Lazy River

Definitely not “Plug and Play” but a nice little machine
“I just got this copier and set it up today. Took two hours and a call to tech support to get it going, but now that it’s up and running, I am really impressed. Lots of features for the money, and they all seem to work well. Love the document feeder. Problems reported by other users don’t seem to apply to mine. No problem figuring out the paper tray. The black ink prints fine. Someone commented that there was no way to label the quick dials on the fax area, but mine came with an adhesive label for that area.” – by S. B.

Best Printer I’ve Used in a Long Time
“So I bought the MFC-5890CN. I have had several nice surprises since. First, it prints GREAT! photos using the ink provided. I bought the Brother “innobella” 4×6 glossy photo paper ($5 for 20 sheets), put it in the paper tray, put the memory stick from my camera into the printer card-reader slot, selected the picture I wanted on the LCD, clicked print, and after about a minute, out popped at beautiful borderless 4×6 glossy picture that, to my eye, was about as good as any photo I’ve seen (from another printer or Walgreens). I was very, very, very happy how easy this worked and how good the picture looked.” – by K. Reynolds

Brother MFC-5890CN customer review
“Very pleased for the most part. Only problem I had was while it claims to work with a x64 system you have to search internet for drivers and some of the attached software does not work on x64 systems, like the scanner
software that changes text to digital is not compatable with a x64 so this part does not work. All in all a very
good value. I love the multiple feed scanner as this has saved me many hours work. I loaded this on Windows 7 (x64) pre-release software and it works great!”

One of the best printers I have ever seen
“The Brother MFC5890cn is the best printer I have used. I operate 4 computers in a network with both Linux Mint 6 and Windows XP with dual boot for business and CAD use. Linux for online and Windows for CAD offline. Setting up this network printer was a breeze. The CD included with the printer set it up for Windows. I contacted Brother for drivers for Linux and within an hour received a response from the Japanese service center for Brother via email with instructions and references to the Brother web site for Linux drivers…” – by Philip C. Great, affordable, multi-use printer
“The software for this loaded and did everything it was supposed to do, but it took 30-40 minutes to install. I didn’t install this on a slow computer, either. I don’t know how much hard drive space it takes. After the epic installation process, printing from the computer was more than satisfactory for us in both speed and quality. I don’t know if I would use this as my main photo printer; we haven’t tried it with photo paper, and don’t have much need for that. You’ll get a little over 5 pages a minute with text, and a little over 2 with images. The speed is great for us; a larger business would do better with some kind of dedicated, single-function laser printer…” – by The Taminator
